My new laptop computer has Lightscribe capability, which I think will be very very very very cool but I've never used it.
Does VideoStudio x2 let me do Lightscribe labels on the DVD discs, or can I use a Lightscribe graphics program on my laptop to make the label on one side of the DVD, then make my movies on the other side of the DVD?

I don't think Video Studio supports Lightscribe, but I'm not 100% sure.
In any case, you're right. It's a separate operation from burning the data and you have to flip the disc over.
I've never tried it either... I have a Lightscribe burner, but I've never purchased any Lightscribe discs. I buy the printable discs and print with my Epson printer. Before that I printed "Neato" labels.
Something else I've never bothered to try is Nero's Labelflash, which can burn an image in unused area on the data side.

No you cannot burn lightscribe discs from within VideoStudio - I burn quite a few lightscribe discs and I use "Sure Thing CD Labeler De Luxe" from http://www.surething.com, this allows you to import any graphics which you have made or downloaded on your PC as well as typing text.
Labelling the disc and putting your videos on it are two entirely separate procedures - you put the disc in "upside down" to burn the label - then you take the disc out , turn it right way up and use it like any other disc to burn your videos to.
I like the labels but the only down side is that even a relatively simple graphic with text can take around 15 minutes to just burn the label - you also have to buy Lightscibe DVDs which are a bit more expensive than ordinary DVDs
