Cannot use Nikon MOV files in X2

Post by maddog999 »

Hopefully not a VSP X2 problem. Looking for other sufferers.

Just purchased a Nikon P500 and had / have to create a short video. The *.MOV files (I've tried everything from VGA to 1080p) will import into X2, but kill the app when I try outputting to any file type / format; I cannot even write to an audio file.

Nikon is next, then Adobe, but I can write the MOV file to a DVD and the files open in QuickTime and Media Player.

Comments?

Thx - Duo

Could be a QuickTime issue. Please see the following post regarding earlier versions of QT.

A solution? I downloaded the TBYB version of X4 and successfully generated a test video. Interesting. A bit of a push for purchasing an upgrade to X4!

I'd still be interested to hear of any substantive way to "fix" X2.

Have you installed both patches for VS X2?
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 7273776985

The second patch, is suppose to make VS X2 compatible with Win7, while the first one does address some issues with some HD file types. If that does not fix it, could you right-click on one of your clips in the time-line or Library, select properties and post them? While your camera encloses your video in the MOV wrapper, it does not really say what codec it uses. It could be h.264 or something else.

Ron,
Patches up-to-date.
Properties are in the attached PNG file.
Here is a comment from Nikon: Thanks for the question. The P500 records standard H.264/MPEG-4 AVC with AAC stereo audio files stored in a QuickTime .MOV container. This is a standard file format so I'd expect your software should be able to open it but you'd have to ask Corel about that. Sorry we can't help more.

Thank you for the follow-up.

You probably have tried using the "canned" template of AVCHD>NTSC HD-1920 ? VS unfortunately uses the h.264 codec inside the MPEG-4 wrapper. Selecting MPEG-4, you can not get the HD settings with that codec. You need to use the MPEG-2 format. The nice thing about VS X2, is that it still allowed MPEG-2, and you can customize the settings.

Are you wanting to burn a blu-ray disc, an hybrid DVD, a SD DVD, or just something to upload to YouTube or watch on your PC?
