Unable to create DVD with VS Pro X2

Post by hollies »

Not sure if this has been covered previously or if it is actually a stupid question, but i have a problem trying to produce a DVD from an m2p file.

I am using VS Pro X2 and have trawled this forum and the help files for hours but not been able to find a solution. I don't know if I am just missing something here because it seems as if it should be so simple.

My file properties are
Video
MPEG-2 Video, Lower Field First
120,924 frame(s)
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4.3
25.000 frames/sec
6000kbps

Audio
MPEG Audio Layer 2 files
232,174,080 Samples
48000 Hz 16 bit Stereo
Layer 2
223kbps

My Project properties are

PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: 6000 kbps
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

I created an m2p video file with premier pro and imported it into VS and saved the project as a VSP file. It is just one complete clip of approx 1hour 20mins that needs no other editing except I added 4 chapter points and saved again.

The problem is that when I try to create a DVD by either Tools/Create Disc/DVD or through the Share Tab at the top, a window opens ok but I cannot do anything with it.

My project shows in the media clip list at the bottom (It shows black because I have a couple of seconds of black video at the start) but I just cannot find a way to get it into the preview pane so that I can use the jog slider or view the project.
Image

When I click Add/Edit Chapter, another similar window opens and my file shows along with the 4 chapter point but I still cannot get it into the preview pane.

Please, what have I done wrong, not doing or what am I missing here!! It is very frustrating.

I appreciate any assistance or pointing in the right direction. I need to finish this DVD in the morning. I have been trying for a week.

Many thanks, Rob

Welcome to the forums, :)

When is the last time you updated your Windows DirectX? That's the easy fix, hopefully. Everything else seems to be rock-solid. Your just not getting the buttons to activate. DirectX must be updated manually, it is not part of the customary windows update process. There is sticky at the top of the forum, that contains a link to the most recent version. Download it, then create a folder on your system to extract the files into, because it will extract around 200 files, and I sure wouldn't want them running loose. Once extracted, locate inside the folder and run the DXSETUP.exe file. Once it is done installing you can delete the folder having all the extracted files.

If that doesn't fix it, you may have to reinstall the program. One other thing you could try, is to log-in under another user account on your system and see if you get the same problem there. If you don't have another account, you could create one temporarily, then delete it afterward.

Ron
Many thanks for your speedy and indeed, accurate response to my post. I have updated the DirectX and all seems to be working fine.

My apologies for the delay in letting you know but I actually went away from home for 12 days the day after posting and do not have access to the internet.

However, as this DVD is quite urgent, I have popped home to try to get it finished. (Wife's not too happy)

Now, as the help files are not that good, is there a decent manual that can be downloaded from anywhere for VSProX2.

I am now trying to create a menu so that when inserted into a player, the screen will show one page with a start button and 4 separate chapter buttons/points.

All I can do at the moment, working with a template, is create a menu that has two pages, the first with 3 chapters and the second with two chapters.

How can I create just the one page and add chapter objects to it? Ie, bring the two chapters on the second page forward so that they show on the first page. I don’t want the second page at all!

Is it not possible to create your own menu and add whatever you want to it?

Thanks, Rob

You can get an X2 manual from here :-

http://cid-3c4a3edfc2332c8f.skydrive.li ... studio.pdf

just click on the 'Download' at top left of that page.

You can do all that you want with the menu - if you cannot follow it from the manual come back here .

Thanks Brian

I have downloaded the User guide.

However, I cannot find how to create the menu that I want.

Not sure if it is just me in my rush to get this done but I cannot see anywhere that tells you how to add another chapter link on the menu page or, how to move the ones on the second page to the first.

Also when I preview the project, a different menu plays first and then when I press play, my menu appears!! But this still has 2 pages and I only want one.!!

Help!! (Please)

When you build your DVD, menus (main and chapter) the first menu page is always the Main menu, which reflects the Titles. Titles are the video clips. When you add chapters, they are then the second and subsequent menu pages. So for example, if you have 3 Titles, Clip-1, Clip-2, and Clip-3. Clip-2 has chapters the others do not. On the Main menu page, it will show 3-thumbnails, one for each Title. For Clip-2, that has chapters, it will also have a secondary menu, which is known as the Chapter menu. When you click on the thumbnail for Clip-2, it will take you to the Chapter Menu, where you can select which chapter you want to jump to.

Steve has a nice diagram posted in his tutorial called From Camcorder to DVD with VS :
Image

In VS X2, in the Edit tab, then Customize. At the bottom press the Drop-down menu, select Layout. Then scroll to find one that fits the number of chapters or titles you want on one page.

Thanks again, Ron, I appreciate your help.

However, as I said in an earlier post, I am actually away from home at the moment and don't have VS on my laptop. It's a pity I can't download v2 while I am away.

I will have a look when I am back home next Tuesday.

Back home now and looking at the Edit / Customize Menu

When I click on the only drop down I can see there are only two options, Navigation Button and Text Only Layout and when the Text button is clicked I only get the one option, (see Pic)

Image
Is this correct or is there something else missing.

I want to be able to build my own menu adding the elements that I want including the 5 chapters and some of my own images. Not the Black with Red Roses. Doesn't really work for a three year old boy!!

Thanks, Rob

Hi Rob

Your first image shows that you have inserted one clip.
The preview screen shows as black, displaying the first frame.
Play the video, stop, right click clip and select change thumbnail.

Your clip should show an image.

Your second image shows you have created 4 extra chapters 5 in all.
Select Ok to close this window.
Select Next
Choose the Edit tab
Choose the “Advanced Settings and deselect Add Title Menu, this will hide the main title menu.

The Chapter Menu will show.
Choose the Gallery Tab and select a template, for these instructions choose the Text Menu top right option. (its an orange colour)
Back to Edit Tab
Choose “Customise” select Layout from the drop down box.
Choose one of the options max 8 links per page.

Click OK to close window

Your five links/chapters should show in the preview screen.
You will only have one menu page as the main title menu is hidden

Have followed your guidance but when I come to this bit, it does not follow.

In the gallery tab, I have 7 templates under all and if I select Text Menus I only have two, one which is pink with roses and the other black with the red rose.

I have selected 05vs_Text23 (Black/Red)

Then to the customize Menu and I only have the one option in the drop down box after selecting Text Only Layout and that is "LaT0201"

There is nothing else for me to select! (See my third Image.)

Hi Rob

Have you installed Video Studio 12 correctly.
Usually the program comes with an Extra Contents file. This provides additional templates to the libraries.
There may also be a Bonus file, which usually provides clip samples.

In the Text Gallery I see 30 separate templates, I believe they are all provided with the program, that is I do not think I have imported them from elsewhere.
Most are installed with the Contents Pack
When I view the Customise option it shows the drop down box as “Layout” not “Text only Layout”, which seems a little strange.

I have the downloaded version of X2 which contained these files

ESDVSPRX2IEPCPF.exe (the program)
VSX2ProContentPack_EN.exe
VSX2ProBonusPack_6in1.exe

Hi Trevor

Yes, as far as I am aware I have. Although I bought this prog some time ago the PSPro as a package, it is really the first time I have tried to use VS and there does seem to be bit lacking. Whenever I look at the "handbook" or try to follow advice, it does not appear to be the same programme that I am using.

Not sure if it was from a download or disc, (I have the PSPro disc) so I will try to find the original files and re-install.

However, as stated in previous post I am desperate to get this dvd finished before a friend leaves for the US next week.

I'll see what I can find.

Any mileage in upgrading to VSX4. Will I get the same problems, is it a much better programme than X2>

Hi Rob

You could try the X4 trial.
The program is fully functional however the trial does not contain all templates, so the option to customise the layout may be limited.
A little like what you are seeing with VS12.

It may be worth trying though………

I have send you a PM as I have created a menu template containing 6 chapter points, can send if I had your e-mail address.

Hi

I have provided Rob with a template which should allow him to create a menu with up to 8 links. The template seems to work?

However Rob asks

“I have found 27 ufo files in Content/Menu Template folder even though in the programme I can only see 7 templates.

However, I have extracted the template you have made and it has 7 chapters over 2 pages and is the black with red roses.

How do I get rid of the black and the roses and the second page plus all of the nav buttons, non of which I want on the menu.

I don't appear to be able to delete anything from the menu or add any other elements. Why are these not customizable? How on earth did you do it?

I used to have ULead DVD workshop and it worked fine? I am just not confident that this prog is working anywhere near how it should be!!

Rob
The first menu page containing the single “Title” can be hidden, its not of much use anyway as you have created a Chapter Menu
How..........
From the Edit Tab choose the Advanced Settings—deselect Add Title Menu
You will be left with one menu page containing your chapter links.

From the top of the Edit tab select your background music
Below this is an option to change the Background Image/Video

The preview screen should show the menu page with the words My title, double click to edit.
Same for the link text, double click to edit.

If this has no effect then it may be your version of Video Studio that’s causing the problem. Is it the full version provided by Corel?????

Thanks Trevor

Firstly, yes, the prog is the full version bought in a bundle with PSPro and is registered with Corel.

I have followed your help and got this far.

On my screen I have the Black page with the red roses and the title and 6 chapters 1-6. The text I can edit by double clicking.

The other chapter (7) is on page two.

However, I don't want 2 pages, I want all of the chapters to be accessed from the first page and I dont want the black or the red roses but I don't seem to be able to edit any of these items or delete them.

How can I create a Chapter 7 on the first page or bring the one on the 2nd page forward. Although I can select the Roses and the buttons, I can't find any way of deleting them other than hiding the object.

Surely I should be able to create a menu from scratch using an image of my own and adding the elements that I want to.
