VS X2 not seeing files under "Import from folder"

Post by BostonRott »

I'm not sure if the problem I'm having is due to an error in my software, or the age of my computer.

I have an older HP, it's a Pentium D, which how has 4Gb RAM and is running a Win 7, 32 bit system (non hyper threaded). My main drive is only 500Gb, but the 2nd drive is 1.5Tb. I purchased X2 about 18mos ago, had problems with it not loading any videos, then later got into serious HDD issues (later resulting in me replacing the HDD) and never got back around to video editing. So, tried again tonight and am having problems importing video.

I use a Panasonic P&S camera to shoot HD video. I can easily import it via the card reader, and the files come over as Quick Time movies. When I open VS X2, and then under Capture, click on "Import from Folder," I am unable to actually open any folders at the deepest level. I can navigate from the E: drive down a few layers, but never am able to open the folders themselves. I tried dragging a movie file (which I can easily view on my PC using Quick Time) to the top level of E:, and still, it does not show up in the file tree when in Import.

I just installed X2 tonight, and then went and got both the update patches from the Corel site. The HDD is about 6mos old and relatively empty (C: is where programs reside, E: is where photos/video are stored). Install went smoothly.

The other issue I seem to be having is that Corel stops working. That what it says "Program has stopped working."

I don't know if this is a glitch in the program, or if my PC is too old?? It handles Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Lightroom running concurrently, editing large RAW files just fine. Hubby's been out of full time work for 16mos, so upgrades in both software and hardware have been on hold.

I appreciate your thoughts and help! :D

Hi

and welcome to the forum

The Import from Folder option is relating to a DVD disc a TS-Video folder, not the camera files.

Import the video to your PC using the card reader, or simply drag and drop from camera to hard drive. I assume you have done this.

Launch Video Studio and Switch to the Edit Tab
To insert video to timeline or library …right click timeline/library and select Insert Video. Browse your hard drive for the video files.

Post Edited

Video Studio stopped working…..

There was a problem with using the latest version of QuickTime.
I have 7.5.5 installed

Reverting to an earlier version has cured problems for some users.
If you also use I-Tunes then using an earlier version may affect that.

There was an article on the Knowledge Base but cannot find as the site is under construction.

Was X2 designed for Windows 7? Did it need a patch to be compatible? With all these new OS's and VS versions I have lost track. :?

Trevor,

Got it, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) I had a feeling that I was not doing something correctly. Having a VERY busy 3yr old son running about does not allow me the time to delve into things the way I used to (well, at least not if I want my house in one piece).

I will look into my QT versions tonight and see where that lies. I do have iTunes on the PC, but use it very little. Silly question: are older versions of Quick Time still avail online somewhere? This HDD is only 6mos old, so I don't have far to go back on it (via restore points), and the previous one completely failed, so I can't get back to it either.

Again, thank you!! I have a good bit of video to go through (including our 2009 Galapagos trip!), this will be exciting to be able to catch up on, and then share with family. THANK YOU!

My understanding from the Corel site (under Support, Patches) was that the 2nd patch (Pack 2 I believe?) was to bring X2 up to Win7 compliance. But, first one needs to install Patch 1. So, both are in. The program starts up nicely, and seems to run fairly smoothly (until it stops working).........so I don't think I'm have a global OS issue.

Galapagos…we are going in early 2012, and being interested in wildlife its just one of those things you have to do ……….

I found a reference to QT and VS 3 which has a link to an earlier version. V7.6

Strange though that X4 installs 7.5.5

I have 7.6.8, but just found this website, where you can get older versions (and I'm grabbing 7.5.5). :)

Why go to a third-party website for that. Apple has maintained a download page for several of the older versions:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime

I think I'll add a sticky to the forum, where this link can be found easily, so others that need to use an earlier version can access it.

Thank you Ron. I didn't realize that Apple kept back copies. I simply google'd "Quick Time 7.5.5" and ended upon that site. I've uninstalled my 7.6.8 and re-installed 7.5.5 and all now seems well with my VS X2.

Thank you gentleman so much for your patience and help, it is most appreciated!! :)
