Re: Videostudio X4 jumps!!
Ok, your camcorder is an analog 8mm. VS X4 should not have any problems capturing analog 8mm. I worked with Corel on getting this fixed. VS 11 through X3 would not capture analog 8mm. I can try another test with VS X4 just to make sure it is still working, as the tests were done with one of the beta versions.
EDITED
Just ran a test, and the fix DID NOT get included in the final ESD version. This problem was mainly related to WinXP machines I think. So capturing analog with VS X4 may not be possible, when using an analog tape in a DV camcorder anyway. I don't have a capture card or other device to see if it may allow it through them.
So that leads me to think there is a problem with your capture device. It does have an onboard chip, that is suppose to reduce the resource demand on PCs, during capture, especially when the video from the source (camcorder or vcr), needs to be converted. Here's some things to try;
1. Try using Windows Movie Maker, that comes with MS Windows to capture your video. If that works, then once you have the video on your computer, you can then use whatever video editing program to edit it, VS 11 or VS X4, or even Windows Movie Maker.
2. Try uninstalling the trial version of VS X4. Make sure that you have completely removed it.
Cleanup.exe
3. Now try capturing using your VS 11 version. Set the video format type to MPEG-2. I don't think you're able to use DV (avi), if you can I would strongly recommend using it. Watch to see if you start having a lot of dropped frames. This is very, very important. If you are, then your video is not going to be smooth, as you did not capture the entire clip. Again make sure you shut down ALL non-essential background resources. These can cause problems during capturing, stealing critical resources from your PC when it needs them for capturing or processing video.
4. If you're successful with your capture, (No dropped frames, or at least a very low number) then see if you can edit it in VS 11. If not, then there's a problem with your hardware somewhere. This could be the capture device failing, or one of the ports on the camcorder.
5. Check the sounds and audio devices settings for your operating system. Generally you can get at it through the speaker icon in the lower-right of the task bar. For WinXP, go to the Audio tab, and check to see what it has set for the Sound Recording, if you're not getting audio. Try changing it, if it is not reflecting your capture device. It may say Line-In. You DO NOT want to use Microphone input for Line level audio. Mic input is an amplified signal, and putting line-level audio into that will cause severe distortion, and vice-versa putting mic level audio into line-level, the volume will be so mute, you may not be able to hear it.

Download the Clean-up Utility here:Corel Knowledgebase wrote: 1. Log on to a user account with administrative privileges since ''Limited'' or ''Power User'' accounts won't let Corel software install, uninstall, or run properly.
2. Disable your anti-virus/spyware, and firewall during this clean re-installation procedure.
3. Download the file VS_Cleanup.exe from the link provided at the end of the e-mail.
Double-click on the file if you have Windows XP or right-click on it and choose run as Administrator if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7.
4. If a message appears asking whether you want to run the file, click on Run, Allow or Continue.
When VS_Cleanup starts, click on the option Start Cleanup and wait until the cleanup is complete.
5. Close VS_Cleanup.
6. Restart your computer.
7. Reinstall VideoStudio Pro X4 if you are reinstalling.

Hi
The camera appears to have composite terminals only, Audio is Mono, so only two connections.
Have you installed the correct drivers for the VideoMate C100 that came with the card.?
I found a manual here

Re: Videostudio X4 jumps!!
I followed all your instructions, and yet SE11 is still dropping frames dramatically. It never stops dropping frames. I would include a screen shot showing this however I cant see how to attach it hereRon P. wrote:While capturing are you showing any dropped frames? You would need to enable this in the Preferences dialog, on the Capture tab. Then while capturing, at the bottom, in the Information section, on the right side, beneath the PCM or whatever audio properties being used, should show a number, which should be 0. The icon looks like a broken film strip. If you are showing dropped frames, it could be that your computer is not keeping up with the data flow. If so, try shutting down resources that are not absolutely necessary at the time, like internet/network connections, anti-virus/spyware programs, instant messaging programs.

Hi
My comment regarding Composite was to inform other readers that the camera has Only Composite and no other alternative connections.
Your link to the other forum seems to suggest that you had no Audio capture
Can I assume that you are now capturing both Video and Audio, all be it terrible quality.
I was going to ask about the Line-In (blue) cable link to the capture card, (C100)… but it seems as though this is connected?
Dropped Frames, from your comments you are seeing lots, one is too many, there should be no dropped frames.
Video captured from an analogue source needs re-coding and transferred to the pc on the fly, If this process is slow then dropped frames will result.
It could be as simple as your capture settings, but may be the hardware itself. I assume the C100 is relatively new?
Capture Properties
After capture…From the edit Timeline ….Can you right click a captured file and select Properties. What are they?
If you save this information window as an image you could attach to the forum post. (upload attachment tab below text window)

Re: Videostudio X4 jumps!!
Hi
First I am using VS10 for any sample images.
Sorry if this has been asked before but did you set the Source as Line-In
From the Options Cogwheel I see this window.
Things to try for audio input:-
Are you able to connect the cameras "audio out" terminal directly to the line In terminal of the PC. Bypassing the C100?
Your capture settings look standard DVD Pal, you could try reducing the bit rate to say 6000kbps rather than 9000kbps.
to see if the capture improves???

Re: Videostudio X4 jumps!!
That made me hopefull as I havent tried any of those however, the audio tab just says : pass through sound card, and gives me no options. Nothing happened when i put it into my line in jack. I also couldn't find anywhere to lower the bit rate :/

Re: Videostudio X4 jumps!!
I briefly read thorugh the other threads, can you go into your bios and check whch sound card is being used there, and disable the one you don't want to use.
I'm thinking the pass through sound card bit is causing trouble, along with all the audio items you have.
Computers get confused so easily

Re: Videostudio X4 jumps!!
Perhaps but there really isnt, just options for my Fan, AMD Live, boot options and my hard drive options , and of course time and date and security. Nothing at all with regards to the sound card.skier-hughes wrote:there has to be at least one, maybe that's the problem?
The thing thats annoying me is , the sound works perfectly on VS X4, just not SE11, so surely its not my sound card, or my settings but SE11?
Whats the best VE to use that has the least problems on here that I can download and try? I have about 30 tapes that i really need to put onto dvd, and a months trial is enough time to do it in.

Re: Videostudio X4 jumps!!
The problem is the SE special edition version you have is made to work with the hardware you have.
You are right in that why does one work and not the other, but due to the way that the Se version is made it could be a problem as the SE version may not be picking up the audio input.
How is the audio lead connected?
As the sound card is using pass thorugh, it may need to go into capture card and out into sound card, or vice versa.
Can you post a picture of the audio cables going into the pc.
See below the box you write in for upload attachment tab, click here and upload a picture.
On the sound recording tab you have in your pic on the other forum, cd recording is enabled, it is now set to line in?
In the bios you will have other pages which deal with other items, you'd need to look through them all to find the audio set-up.
In mine I can enable disable the onboard sound and make adjustments to the pci sound card.

Re: Videostudio X4 jumps!!
There really is no sound option in my BIOS
I also know that the sound leads are connected properly as my uncle who is an I.T Tech, got me to send him photos of what i was doing, but just for your benefit ill include some photos. Ill also include the photo to show my dropped frames
or i would but the photos are too big for this site
