Videostudio X4 jumps!!

Post by TheKillerQueen »

I have purchased a trial of X4 , and use a Videomate capture card. I plug my camcorder into the composite socket and other audio sockets. Everything works fine however when capturing it jumps so much. I thought it was just the synicing going slow, however when i play it back, it seems to jump frames every 5seconds and if it doesnt jump then the sound is sped up so it sounds like people are talking in fast motion.

How can i resolve this? can i sort it in editing mode or do i have to capture the whole thing all over again?

many thanks

You don't tell us what type of camcorder you are using, what type of video format you are trying to capture to, or what any of your settings are. All these things would be very helpful.

I am intrigued that you say you have purchased the trial. Corel trial versions of all its products are free of charge.

Could you also tell us which model your Videomate is, please. And did the Videomate come with any capture software of its own? Generally, we recommend people use the software which came with the device for capture, and then open the captured video in Video Studio for editing. I know that at least some models of the Videomate come with Video Studio 11 SE. But often, the hardware managers tweak the software to work with their hardware without sharing the secret with the original software maker. So it could be that you would need to use VS 11SE for capture.

But again, we also need to know what type of video you are trying to capture...

Im using an old Sanyo camcorder , I cant tell you what tapes they are as they are just standard old camcorder tapes. Its that old that it doesnt have S-video.
The videomate capture card is C100, and yes it came with Ulead SE11, but that only worked once, and wouldnt capture any sound, so a guy on another forum told me to download X4, and ive had no problems except this jumping.

Im very new to this sort of thing, so i cant really tell you what settings im using, i havent changed the settings, its just set to how it is when you first use it.

In VS X4, what capture settings are you using? If you for example capture MPEG-2 (DVD), which should have an upper field first field order, and when you create a video file or burn a DVD you reverse the field order to Lower Field First, this could cause problems. Also if your frame rate is not correct, PAL (UK and most other places) use 25 fps, where NTSC (US,) uses 29.97fps.

I'd guess at it being caused by not being compatible with X4 (go back to trying to get the version supplied with it to work), the computer can't cope with inputting and converting the data at the same time or the tape is of poor quality and needs a time base corrector to steady the information flow.

let's stick with why the se version doesn't capture the sound, how is the camcorder connected? What leads go to where? What options have you ticked in the audio manager console for windows

Ive gone through all of this on the other forum, and we established that its SE (or vista) and not my connections. My connections are fine, I even had my uncle who is an I.T Tech go through it with me, and the first time i tried it , it worked. Then it just stopped capturing sound. I havent changed where the cables go at all, Ive replaced them, but put them back in the right place.

Its either SE or Vista, thats why I was told to download a newer version, and with X4, the cables are stil in the same place as before, and i manage to get both sound and visual, so its definitely not the connections

Hope that helps

While capturing are you showing any dropped frames? You would need to enable this in the Preferences dialog, on the Capture tab. Then while capturing, at the bottom, in the Information section, on the right side, beneath the PCM or whatever audio properties being used, should show a number, which should be 0. The icon looks like a broken film strip. If you are showing dropped frames, it could be that your computer is not keeping up with the data flow. If so, try shutting down resources that are not absolutely necessary at the time, like internet/network connections, anti-virus/spyware programs, instant messaging programs.

Since ive downloaded the trial of X4 , i cant even get visual on SE 11 let alone audio. And the dropped frames go up and up. Do i need to uninstall X4?

X4 has now also stopped showing any visual and only captures sound, and that frames dropping increases on that too

It would be nice to know what we are dealing with. There is no model number on the cam? Nothing on the tapes to tell what they are? There is no such thing as a "standard" camcorder tape. There is Compact VHS, Hi-8, Digital 8, Mini-DV......etc.

When capturing from my DV cam I have inadvertently set it to capture to MPEG-2, and have experienced dropped frames. But not knowing any of the above mentioned details it is impossible to give you any advice, only guesses.
