DV Codec file

I have received a bunch of files that are named "clip.dv". I can play them using VLC Media Player. It tells me the file type is "DV Video (dv )". Video Studio X4 will not allow me to import the file. It has no idea what to do with it. What am I missing? Do I need to convert these files to something else?

They are indeed DV files, but captured using Apple/Mac software. Unfortunately, you cannot just change the extension to .avi... The only way I ever found to convert them to something a PC can see was using Quicktime Pro, though I can't say I was particularly pleased with the results.

I'm finding that VLC Media Player will convert them, relatively quick too. But I'm surprised that I even need to do this. I would have expected that Corel should have included this import into VSX4.

Why? I would have thought video produced on an Apple would normally be edited by Apple software, not PC software. Moreover, this is only about the third time this subject has come up in the eight years I have been working on the board.

I searched for DV Codec, .DV, and a few other variants and came up with nothing helpful. So, thank you for your response Ken. It truly was appreciated. FWIW, the VLC Media Player is doing a nice job of conversion.

What is it coverting it to? PC version of DV/AVI or mpeg-2?

I simply selected the first available option which was H.264 + AAC (MP4). VSX4 then had no problem importing the file. There were lots of other conversion options.
