VS & Screencast-O-Matic

Post by UncleBoo »

Hi folks, I know this is a long shot, but here's hoping someone out there can help.

My wife is using Screencast-O-Matic on her Mac to create some video tutorials with live screen capture. Although cloud-based, the software does provide the ability to download a copy of the video, in either mp4 or proprietary (som) format. Because the native editing tools aren't that great, I offered to do some editing on my PC with VSX3. However, when I try to load the mp4 onto the VSX3 timeline, VSX3 crashes. I've tried this with four different Screencast-O-Matic mp4 files with the same results.

Obviously, I can't provide the video properties, because I can't even load the video into VSX3.

So: Does anyone know how to get Screencast-O-Matic videos into VSX3? Has anyone even used Screencast-O-Matic? Can anyone recommend different live screen capture software? Ideal software would either have decent native NLE tools, or generate video files that are compatible with VS.

TIA,
Uncle Boo

Try converting it to something that VS likes. Super seems to do a good conversion job.

Hi Uncle Boo

Just tried the Screencast, surprised to find it free.

I did not have any problems……………….

The create movie option gave two choices MP4 _using H264 and MP4.Avi

Both imported to Video Studio without problems, both played ok.
I didn’t try to edit, but think that would be ok as well.

Try creating both versions to see which works best…………

Ps there was the option to create Flash (FLV) but you cannot import FLV to Video Studio.
