Plugins not useable

Post by Sheila »

I have made a separate folder for my plugins and made my folder preferences. When I select Effects and chose a plugin it shows up but I get the following message: Unable to load requested plug-in filter. The plug-in may not be installed properly or may be missing files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, my first suggestion would be that the plugin is missing a file or something. Double-check the installation.

Some important questions are which version of PSP are you using? I'm assuming you're saying every plugin is like this so can you give us an example of some plugins that are acting like this? Do any of them rely on an external .dll?

PSPX3, as of patch #3, made some changes to the plugin system which has caused problems with some plugins but we can't always blame this patch for all plugin errors. Especially if you haven't installed patch #3, or you aren't using PSPX3.

Some ideas would be running PSP as administrator (Right-click the icon and select Run As Administrator). I've found this was necessary when running a plugin that wants access to an external file.

Others might have better suggestions but if these don't help then answering the questions I asked and anything else you feel is important and maybe we can get some better suggestions.

I'm running X3 and have installed all the available patches. This is on all filters, Andrews, Almathera, etc.

Download http://www.corel.com/6763/psp_downloads ... vcrt10.zip. Extract MSVCRT10.DLL from the file you downloaded and copy it to your C:\Windows\SysWow64\ folder.

What if you get a similar problem on Windows XP (using X3 with all available updates?) Where do you put the file?

Thank you for the dll, I added it to my syswow folder but that did not solve the problem. Are there more dll's that should go in the folder by any chance?

In XP (the standard 32 bit version anyway), it should go in C:\WINDOWS\system32.
In theory the DLL should go in a folder that is in the system's path, or in the folder of the program that calls the DLL. Open a command prompt by entering "cmd" in the Start Menu's Run box and press enter. Then type "set" (without the quote marks) and press enter. You'll see a list of system variables. One line will start with "Path=" and contain several lines of folder addresses. (You may have to scroll up to find it).
There won't be any problem, apart from a tiny bit of wasted space, if you place copies of MSCVRT10.DLL in more than one place.

Some older plugins need a copyright Adobe file called "plugin.dll". Although it's not legal to install it unless you own one of the Adobe programs that ship with it, you'll find it to download without much trouble.
You might also find that some plugins won't work under 64 bit versions of Windows. You will need to see if the plugin author has a newer version, you may need to disable DEP, or you may need to fix the plugins using FM Patcher - http://www.filtermeister.com/fmpatcher/index.htm.
You will find more info at the The Plugin Site, particularly at http://www.thepluginsite.com/knowhow/tu ... uction.htm, and at their forums - http://www.thepluginsite.com/forum/index.php.

The got the plugins to show up by putting the dll in both the system and syswow folders. Now the whole program shuts down when I try to use one.

Any ideas? Help greatly appreciated.

Did you try disabling DEP for PSP X3? I had to do that to get my DC plug-ins to work. However, I did have many other plug-ins that did work with DEP enabled so I guess it depends on the plug-in.

Instructions for disabling D.E.P. for WinXP and Vista, just add PSPP instead of VS.

Rats!! That has to be frustrating. Maybe try removing and re-installing one of your plug-ins just to see if that will get it to work?
