Exporting in MP4 in Pro X3

Post by kerrya »

We import an MP4 file into VideoStudio Pro X3 and simply add a title and do minor editing. We then want to render back out as an MP4 file.

The problem we're having is the export file is HUGE. Even when exported as a iPad 640 file (which I believe reduces everything to 16 bit) the file is usually about 300% larger than the original. Our originals are typically 300 megs or so and the out put file from VideoStudio is about 1 gig.

I can't find anything to control this . Am I missing something or is it not there. Does X4 improve on this?

Thanks

The problem is that there is a wide variety of mpeg-4 files, with fairly different properties and codecs used. Can you please right click on one of your imported files in the VS timeline or library window, and copy ALL its properties here please (or post a screen shot of those properties). And could you also give us an idea of the properties of your new output file...?

The only similar video clip I have to do any testing with is created from screen-capture. I ran a couple of tests with it, rendering it to the MPEG-4 iphone 640 x 480 template, and also going the custom route. Here are the settings I used:
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 640 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 4000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

The source file properties are:
vsx4 mpeg4 properties.png
vsx4 mpeg4 properties.png (7.79 KiB) Viewed 1416 times

Are you using the template, provided in the menu? Have you tried customizing, by going to Create Video File>Custom, then selecting MPEG-4 Files for the Save as type. Then pressing the Options button to customize the settings?
