Intermediate Filter error

I am attempting to create a video file before I burn to a DVD. I am getting the error: no combination of intermediate filters could be found to make a connection, 17128:1:4. Does anyone know what this means?

I imported a old avi file made a couple of years ago. VS 9 kept crashing as I was trying to edit it. The tape head wouldn't move, the video went black but you could hear the audio. After rebooting several times, I took everything off of the timeline except the old avi file. I should also mention, when I viewed the properties of the clip it gave some message that I can't remember but made me suspect a problem. I clicked on Share and tried to create an avi file from it hoping that would fix it. I got the No combination of intermediate filters could be found.

I closed VS9 and opened VS7. I brought in the avi file and tried the same thing. It worked and I had a new version of the file. I reopened VS9, brought in the new file and everything worked.
