Hey Guys
New here. Couldnt find what im looking for so I registered to ask a question
I have video studio 7 SE DVD. When I capture edit and share my file and burn it to DVD, the picture looks fat and stretched whenplayed on a widescreen TV
I have played around with some of the properties and setting on the program but everything I do has the same effect.
I can have the TV set to 4.3 and the picture is fine but of course I have the black bars on each side.
Is there a way to have it show correctly on the widescreen TV without affecting the quality??
I dont mind if it cut some of the picture out as in top and bottom, I just want to keep the picture the right ratio without stretching it to fit.
My video camera I am using is a DV cam. I think it might be half the problem as it records in 4.3 format and is playing on a 16.9 TV.
As I said, I am new so sorry if this topic seams simple but i am not too experienced.
I have done a few videos but nothing to technical.
Thanks
Mick

Re: Videos look fat when played on widesreen TV
If the clips are 4:3, and you are stretching it to fit to show full screen on a 16:9 tv, then the picture will be "short and fat". You could put your 4:3 clips into a 16:9 project, but then you would have to crop some of the top and bottom to keep the aspect ratio.
See Trevor's excellent guide to 16:9 video: http://lata.me.uk/video_studio/16_9/16_9.htm
I also have a guide for a special effect when using 4:3 video in a 16:9 project: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... hilit=espn
Another problem you may have: it's so old I don't know that v7 supported 16:9 video...

Hi Mick
and welcome to the forums
You can convert the 4:3 to 16:9 by zooming into the frame.
You will lose some detail at the top and bottom, but the frame will be in proportion.
Use the distort option, then fit to screen and keep aspect ratio.
Finally rendering the video to 16:9
View my quick guide, created using VS 10 but is still relevant for the latest versions.
PS
There us a link to Jeffs approach at the bottom of my guide
And i didnt notice the VS7 reference..............
Ok done a bit of investigation
I have looked at VS 7 and it does not support widescreen 16:9.
My TV set has several aspect options, 4:3, 16:9 and a “zoom” option. This zooms in to 4:3 filling the widescreen frame, you loose some detail but the video is in proportion.
Check your TV menu for the display aspect.
Also check the DVD player menu regarding aspects.
Otherwise purchase the latest version

Hey Guys.
Well thank you for all the help.
Looks like I need to purchase a new version of VS.
Unless one of the other programs on my computer support 16.9.
Might have a look first.
But, I think I will stick with VS.
I seem to be able to find my way around VS as opposed to others such as Movie Maker etc.
Thanks again Guys
