Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
Hi
Just retried drag and drop to the library, this time I was successful.
Don’t know what I did differently the first time.
Guess we have to wait for Suzette to reply to see if she is allowed to drag and drop.
Anyhow i dont have W7, the drag and drop was just an idea???????

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
I have tried all suggestions. Can't insert .mov file in the timeline, nor Drag-n-Drop in the Library area. I installed latest Quicktime: it did not work. I uninstalled Quicktime and it did not work. BTW, the .mov file plays in Quicktime if Quicktime is installed, and it plays in Windows Media Player if Quicktime is not installed. I am hesitant to re-install X4, which is the downloaded version, until we have some reasonable understanding why this is happening otherwise it's bound to happen again... Al

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
Just tried the drag and drop method and it doesn't work either. I scoured the registry last night to see if there were any clues there but alas that didn't help. This is truly an interesting conundrum. I have the downloaded TRIAL version as I wanted to see how the new version behaved since I bought X3 last year and went gray trying to get the DVD burning part to work correctly. I didn't want to spend the money on another version if it didn't improve.
Ken, is yours the download or boxed version?

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
Somebody from Corel/Ulead must know how those acceptable file types get into the list of X4. What causes a .mov file type to show or not to show? What is missing from the system that causes Corel to be unable to insert .mov files? I guess I will have to ask Corel directly. It seems ridiculous to re-install to see if this fixes the problem, when we don't know what is causing X4 to be able to insert .mov files in some installations and not in others... Al

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
HI Al,
I did an uninstall and reinstall of both X4 and Quicktime and it didn't fix it. Drop a note to Corel. I sent them one a few days ago but haven't heard back. Maybe if others do so as well they will respond.

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
Just as a footnote, I just booted up the second computer on which I have X4 installed. It's also using Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit. And it too has no problems listing, seeing, and importing .mov files. The version of Quicktime on this computer is 7.5.5. which from memory is the version installed by X4 during the set-up routine.

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
Maybe that is my problem. When I installed X4, I didn't get a choice to install Quicktime. I downloaded and installed it separately. Okay.. I'll uninstall and reinstall again to see exactly what it asks me.
This is getting nutty. I really appreciate your assistance Ken. This is the first time I've run into this type of issue before.

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
Maybe for Win 7 Quicktime needs to be 7.5.5?Ken Berry wrote:Just as a footnote, I just booted up the second computer on which I have X4 installed. It's also using Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit. YES! That is it! You need Quicktime 7.5.5: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL26
This is so pathetic! Corel needs to figure out how to avoid this situation if possible. But for sure give warnings to users so we don't run around like chickens with our heads cutoff looking to solve problems like this... Al

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
With X3, it was certainly the case that you had to use the version of Quicktime which came with VS. But as noted above, on my main computer with X4, I have the latest version of Quicktime (7.6.9) and it works perfectly with X4. And that in turn makes me think the previous linkage to an older version has at last been overcome by Corel.
Then again, I suppose it is possible that you need to first install the version that comes with X4 (7.5.5) so that X4 can see .mov files properly. But after that, if you upgrade Quicktime to a more recent version, it will now continue to work.

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
I don't think so Ken. I was able to get .mov files for awhile when I installed X4 and at some point I agreed to the nag screen from Quicktime about an update and that's when my lack of .mov files apparently started. But then we are all guessing what's going on, aren't we?

Well this is interesting. Uninstalling X4 and I get this message:
Error extracting support files:
The system cannot find the file specified.
The title of the message is AVControlSDK.
Very interesting.
I think I'll download a new copy of the trial.

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
If your MOV files are comprised of h.264/AVC video and AAC audio, you might be able to change the file extension from .MOV to .MP4 and import those into the current releases of most video editing applications without Quicktime even being installed. That's the way it is with video files from my video camera that can shoot up to 1920x1080P.
Even with Quicktime installed, I sometimes have to change the extension from .mov to .mp4 so I don't end up with abnormalities in shared video.

and what version of QuickTime is now installed.
Have you installed 7.5.5
Simply re-installing Video Studio will not re-install QT to the earlier version.
Uninstall X4
Uninstall Quick Time
Install X4
QT 7.5.5 will be installed whilst installing X4

Re: VideoStuidio X4 and Quicktime (.mov)
I've had this error too. It somehow was introduced by VS X4, as I never had it prior to VS X4. However I get that error when I uninstall other VS versions. I spent hours trying to run down why, never could, and have not noticed anything bad from it, so I just ignore it.SidecarSue wrote:Well this is interesting. Uninstalling X4 and I get this message:
