Hi all,
I have used a pc from the 1980s and never bothered much about formally backing up relying on saving to disk for important piccies etc. I have had several computer crashes over the years and merely reinstalled all. My problem is now this: I have recently taken on the job of official film-maker for a local club and so feel I should have some formal backup in place, for fear of losing my project file mid-stream before completion!! Can anyone advise on perhaps a backup prog particularly for Video work? I believe the opposition incorporate a back up prog into their software but I don't want to move away from Corel.
Thanks to anyone who can advise.

Re: Backing up Video work
I use a combination of a raid drive in my main editing pc, so it is saved twice to two identical drives plus a usb connected ext drive, where I do a save as.

Re: Backing up Video work
Thanks to all who replied with this query. I have now worked out how to back up my project files with VS Pro's Smart Package (I didn't realise I had this before!) then save them to an external hard drive which seems a good bet. Never used one before - other than flash pen drives - so will be a new event for me! So if there's anyone out there who's aware of any snags of doing this, would appreciate knowing! Thanks for your help. The video filming and editing is easy; it's all these peripheral issues that are a pain!

Re: Backing up Video work
I don't use the smart package, so I'd suggest on your first try you ensure that all the files included for use in the project are also included in the back up. No good having the project file if you've lost all the videos.
Re: Backing up Video work
Hi Graham - thanks for your comments. Yes, that thought had occurred to us. Have had a couple of trial runs and it seems it picks up the videos but I will be saving those on to an external hard drive separately just in case! I've had another thread running on a problem with corruption/file association where we lost a "just finished" project which was quite large! That was a lesson in itself! From now on, we are always going to back up as we go! Thanks again for your help.
