Change edited video from NTSC to PAL

Post by ZL52 »

I have created and burnt a video and find that after burning it plays fine on a computer but not on television. Opening the video in Pro X3 and checking the Properties I find that it is in NTSC profile. Obviously not a lot of use in the UK. The television tells me that the DVD is an incorrect DVD, which I would expect if it's burnt for viewing on a computer or in NTSC format.
How can I change this to PAL DVD? When saved it is saved in Corel VS, which I would expect. When I go into the Library to obtain the video there appears nowhere where I can change it to PAL.
I'm curious to know why its properties in the timeline are NTSC. I would have expected them to be VS.

VS uses NTSC as the default, anyway it was that way when Ulead had it. Ulead was headquartered in Taiwan, which is in a NTSC region. However I do know that with VS X3, and now X4, when you install the program you're presented with the chance to set the correct area, PAL or NTSC. I think that you're also given the option to set the country. So I would guess when you installed the program you did not set PAL to be used.

You could try opening your project, then in the Share Create Video File step, select the Custom option located at the bottom. Then in the next dialog, make sure you have the correct File type (MPEG, AVI, WMV or whatever you want), then press the Options button. In the Options dialog if you're creating a SD DVD, from the drop-down menu select PAL DVD. This should work so long as your source files are either PAL, or images. If your source files in your project used NTSC properties, namely the frame size (740 x 480) and frame rate (29.97), the resultant video file will not be smooth, or good quality. PAL uses 720 x 576 frame size and 25fps frame rate. So in a conversion from NTSC to PAL, VS would need to add 96pxs to the height of each frame out of thin air, AND would drop 4.97 frames for each second of video.

Hi

As Ron mentioned when you install Video Studio you are given the option to choose either your Country, Pal or Ntsc
Yes Ron the program still defaults to Ntsc and has to be changed by us in the UK to Pal.
The option installs Video Studio using Pal or Ntsc as its default templates.
You can however select either option within Video Studio.

Go to Share Create Video File – DVD – do these options show as Pal or Ntsc?

If you are in the UK they should show as Pal, if they show as Ntsc then you will ultimately have to re-install the program.

Check the video properties of the original files, are they Pal.

If yes go to Project Properties (Alt + Enter)

Set the “edit file format to “Mpeg files”
Select the “edit” button
Compression Tab
Set Pal DVD as the media type.

Ok to close the windows.
Save the project File –Save.

Share Create Disc – DVD should burn the disc as Pal DVD.

Ok

As far as i know most DVD players in the UK will play Ntsc type video.
Some may require changes to the player menu. Read the manual.

So a little strange that they do not play.
