Plugin Woes

Post by AndyBell »

I'm finding PSP X3 (latest patch) has difficulties with some 3rd party filters if the image has any white (blown out) areas.

For example, Focalblade leaves nasty speckles as can be seen in the clouds in this image:

Topaz filters are even worse...

Focalblade & Topaz work fine in Photoshop Elements and Focalblade's creator has tested it in PSP X2 and found it to be OK.

I've noticed other threads complaining about X3's plugin compatibility. I suppose this is another issue?

Is there a lead time for it to be fixed (I'm still in my 30 day money back period :-))

BTW - this seems to only affect 16 Bits Per channel images. 8 bits per channel are ok, but I want to do my edits in 16 bits...

I have all 4 patches and didn't notice any issues with patch 4. However, patch #3 caused issues for me and others. Specifically it broke Topaz ReMask - it doesn't work at all; just throws an error message that says "Cannot Get Mask Layer." All of my other Topaz plug-ins work fine.

I reported the issue to Corel in December. To date, Corel has not communicated an update or an ETA on when the issue will be resolved.

Hi there,

I have tried the same plugins and it is working fine using my PSPX3. Have you tried manually uninstalling the software and install a fresh copy then install all available patches? If no, please check this help site >

I would also suggest you install this updates >
Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime Library: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Visual C++ 2005 Redisributable Package (x86): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Visual C++ 2009 Redisributable Package (x86):

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Redistributable Package

I hope this helps :)

I've tried reinstalling - to no avail.

Have you tried it with a 16 bits per channel RGB image? That's what's triggering the problem.

Anyway, FocalBlade's creator has analysed and fixed the problem - here's what he said:

"Anyway, the problem is that PSP X3 uses a value range of 0 to 32767 instead of 0 to 32768. As result pixel values of 32768 (pure white) are converted wrongly to yellow/green when converting back to the 0 to 65535 range."
