DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
Whenever I am about to finish a burning process, about 99%, I keep getting this message; Data Buffer Underrun: The computer may be too busy with other tasks or may not have enough power to keep the specified burning speed.
Ive wasted about 5 DVDs trying to burn avi. files...all movie length and about 700MB to 1 GIG
Im running Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop
Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Although we cna see you have win7 and it's 64bit we can't comment on the error message as we don't know your pc specs, could you fill them in please.
What sort of avi files are they?
Are you burning a data dvd or a video-dvd?

There are well over 800 different avi file types, use something like avicodec to find out which one

Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
Can you make an ISO, or save dvd folders to your hard drive?
After doing this, cna you then burn this to a dvd?
Do you have any other burning software installed?
Can this burn the above file if MF fails?
Has MF ever worked?
Did it stop working perhaps after you installed another burning app?

Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
From your original post, I am assuming you are trying to burn DivX or XVid movies which use the .avi format. Most stand-alone DVD players will of course play such videos. But unless you are doing something else with the videos, you don't use a program like Video Studio or Movie Factory to burn such files to disc. It will try to convert them to much larger video DVD-compatible mpeg-2....trying to burn avi. files...all movie length and about 700MB to 1 GIG
Instead, you should just use a program like Nero or even Windows burning facilities, and burn the avi's to DVD or CD as data files. Your DVD player will nonetheless recognise the format of the data files and play them as video.

That makes since; but the thing is i have burnt these type of files before (made a video project). I don't understand why I am having trouble with this now. A data disc would work, but its not what im trying to do here.
Also, I have one of those fans that plugs in your usb; could this be an issue while burning?
Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
I guess nobody really has a solution for this one;
Could it be my media that im using to burn the movie too? I sometimes get a message saying that the disc memory is too little....But the disc is 4.7GB and the video is only 700MB and im not creating a menu; also that green bar at the bottom that shows if you are going over the limit is not even close to the limit.
I just tried to burn str8 from my desktop, no luck.
Ill keep updating though...maybe someone can assist.

Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
And as Ken says, if you are trying to make a dvd-video disc, your file, of whatever sort it is, will most likely grow in size, so an hour long divx.avi of 700mb will be about 4gb as a high quality mpeg2.skier-hughes wrote:Can you make an ISO, or save dvd folders to your hard drive?

Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
I would certainly agree with Graham, though with one small but important variation. DivX movies are usually of the whole movie, and these traditionally run, not for an hour, but usually around 90 minutes or a little more or less. The default conversion settings in MF which would be used to convert the DivX to DVD-compatible mpeg-2 use a bitrate of 8000 kbps. This will allow one hour of video to be converted to fill a 4.3 GB DVD. But if the original video is 90 minutes long, then the resulting mpeg-2, using 8000 kbps, will be over 6 GB in size, and of course will not fit on the single layer DVD. So you would need to reduce the bitrate in the burning settings to around 6000 kbps for a 90 minute video to fit on the DVD.an hour long divx.avi of 700mb will be about 4gb as a high quality mpeg2.

Oh i see. . . i do remember having to do this in version 6; i will try and see what happens. Expect an update.

Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
You may want to take note of these suggestions when burning a disc:
*Choose the 'Enable buffer under-run protection' check box if your burner supports these features.
*Close all running applications like screen saver and memory-resident applications, as they may cause error as well before performing a data write/system conflict.
*You can also set the priority for memory allocation from the "Task Manager" as well. Under the "Processes" tab, look for the MovieFactory image name (DVDMF.exe). Right click on it then select "Set Priority --> High". Do not use real-time because it will make your PC unstable because other tasks might not get memory allocation at all.
You can also try to render your project as an image file first( as what skier-hughes suggested) and burn it later.
To create an image file:
1. On the "Finish" window, check on the "Create disc image file:" only.
2. Choose the directory/folder you wish to save the image file (make sure you have a large free space).
3. Click on Output and you're done.
If you have created a disk image:
1. At the launcher window of DVD MovieFactory 7, click on "Burn from Disc Image" (icon at the bottom part).
2. On the section of "Source Disc Image File", click on the folder to browse for the image file.
4. Locate the image file. This is usually saved to a default folder:
"My Documents\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\7.x"
5. Click on "Copy" to start writing to disk.
Lastly, you may want to delete all the Temp files on your computer. Press Window+R on your keyboard to bring up the Run command, then type in %temp% and then press enter. This will open the Temp folder, delete all the files in this folder to free up some hard drive space on your computer. Try to burn your project again and let's see it from here. Hope this helps!

Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
reducing the bitrate in the burning settings seems to have worked. I can't believe I never thought of it. I really appreciate everyone's input; If there is any change, expect an update!
Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 - Data buffer Underrun
Okay so I solved one problem only to be faced with a new one; the program fails near the end of the burning process. No data buffer underrun...just stops unexpectantly.
Im going to try to uninstall/reinstall...
