Hi, I've been trying to change the colour of some white text in a jpg file, using the Color Replacement Pen, but the text has aliasing and I want to change all the pixels to slightly different intensities of colour, i.e. I want to change the text to red, but when I use the Color Replacement Pen, it changes all the pixels from white/gray, to one colour of red, thus losing the aliasing effect, so it looks really poor.
Is there a setting I am missing on the Color Replacement Pen, or is there another way to do this?
I'm trying to change a Livezilla 'live chat' button, I can't find it on the internet, but you can try changing this image off the Livezilla site, to see what I mean:

Try changing the white text to yellow, whilst maintaining the aliasing effect - that's what I'm trying to achieve.

Why don't you create a new layer and start creating new one, when for base you use the text. I had similar thing to do with one logo. I had to make it bigger but couldn't do with the jpeg. I started to drawing it and make it bigger in that way.

Re: Color replacement pen and smooth edges
I played with this a little bit, and the results aren't perfect, but they might be acceptable at the size of this image.
1. I used Adjust > Convert Data Type > RGB True Color, as this image does not have any yellow (your desired color for the white text) in its color palette.
2. I made a selection box around the white text, so that the shadowing of the green and gray text will be unaffected. (If you want that shadowing to turn yellow, also, then eliminate this step.
3. I clicked on the Color Replacement Pen, setting the source color to white, the replacement color to yellow, the brush size to 20, and the color range to 60. Then I brushed across the white text.
The result is attached:
