Burning/converting .mov/mp4 files to DVD?

Post by been »

Hi,

I'm trying to burn +/- 1gb .mov/mp4 files to dvd to watch on a dvd player hooked up to a tv. I tried buring the mov/mp4 files directly to dvd but my dvd player isn't able to read them. VideoStudio 12 was included on my computer, will it convert mov/mp4 files to a format that can be burned to a dvd that I can watch on my tv? I don't need to edit the files, just burn them to dvd in the highest quality possible to watch on my tv. If it will, are there any tutorials on how to do this?

Thanks a bunch for any help.

Hi

and welcome to the forums………….

Knowing the properties of your original files will help in selecting the correct conversion settings.
Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?

OK

With the clips in the timeline-select Share – Create Video File
From the drop down box choose DVD then select one of the templates.
This will render the video file to a compliant DVD MPEG 2 video file.

Play the file on your pc to check quality……………

Thanks a bunch for the reply. Don't know if you still need the properties, but here they are from the file. Are there other properties from inside Corel that are needed?

Frame height 480
Data rate 2066kbps
Total bitrate 2220kbps

Thanks again for the help, here are the properties from the timeline. There are several options for how to output the file- 4:3, 16:9, VCD, SVCD, MPEG 1, MPEG 2. I think it's in 16:9 format, can you tell from the size ratio? I watch it on my 4:3 tv, do you think it matters to output the file as 4:3 or should it be kept as 16:9?

Thanks again for the help, this seems to be just what I was looking for.

File format- Quicktime movie files
movie size- 854 x 480
duration 2787.187 seconds
track counts- 1 video track, 1 sound track

video track 1
compression- H.264
attributes- 24 bits, 854 x 480
total frames- 83, 532 frames
frame rate- 29.970 frames/sec

sound track 1
compression- MPEG 4 low complexity AAC
attributes- 48,000kHz, 16 bits, stereo

Hi

Your video uses 854 x 480 frame size.
Using a calculator you will see that this is 16:9 ratio.

Rendering to DVD-16:9 will produce a compliant Mpeg 2 file keeping the aspect ratio.

Using 4:3 will squash the frame, everybody will loose a pound or two.

Your TV will play the 16:9 clip showing black border top and bottom, however it may resize to fit screen, again it will be stretched vertically.

I do not know what the quality will be when converting from the Mov file to Mpeg2.

Play the Mpeg2 file to check quality before burning a DVD.

I assume you have DVD blank discs.
If not render to SVCD and burn to CD, you will get 40 minutes of video on a CD using SVCD.

New problem, anyone got any ideas?

I tried out the conversion last night and it seemed to work ok. My computer ended up going to sleep and when I woke it the program was at 45% and seemed to keep going just fine. I hit 'esc' to end the program because I figured I would just wait until today and start over in an orderly fashion and I didn't know if the computer going to sleep would have messed anything up.

So today I set my computer to not sleep and started the conversion again. Except this time the program crashes after not very long by giving me an error message saying the program has quit. I restarted the computer and tried again, same problem. This is the error message details, any suggestions on what to do?

Thanks a bunch for all of the help.
