In MediaStudio Pro, I was able to activate display of cue marks--that is, cues added in the .wav file would be shown in MSP. I haven't yet found out how (or if) this could be done in VSP (currently using VSP X4). This single feature contributed a LOT to a professional result, as I could easily insert cues into the .wav files, see them in the timeline, and then adjust the length of my clips to the music, when desired.
I had originally inserted cues with Adobe Audition. Here's an example: http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/audit ... ncues.html
If not possible, what is the correct way to describe this so I can at least request an enhancement from Corel? I'm very happy with the VSP products overall, but still trying to get some of the same functionality I lost from MSP...
Thanks very much for any insight.

Above the timeline is a note/waveform icon. Click on it to open Audio View, where you will see the waveform.

Re: See .wav cue marks?
Thanks for the prompt feedback, but I am clearly not expressing this well--or I'm still looking for the markers in the wrong place. I am not looking for the waveform display that appears beneath the music track, but cues marked in the .wav file using Adobe Audition or its predecessor (see above link). I can add these cues at major beats in the music or other significant changes, and in MSP they appeared in a form similar to other cues that can be added in VSP. I wish I could illustrate using MSP, but I gave it up after Corel provided an upgrade to Ulead tools, and I'm now using Win7, so it wouldn't work anyway.
It seems that various audio editing programs call these cue marks, markers, cue points or just cues. Some programs, Audition and Cool Edit included, can even add these automatically to indicate beats in the music, although I've found it more reliable to do it by hand. In any case, these are not the whole waveforms, but individual indicators that are passed from the .wav file.
Adobe has other examples: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Audition/3. ... -7f6d.html. I've uploaded a sample screenshot.
Thanks again.

Re: See .wav cue marks?
VS defaults to Chapter marks, so to change it, look in the upper-left corner of the time-line. It's a real small, teeny-tiny, triangle.
Time-line with Cue Marks (blue).
That's so you can place Cue or Chapter marks. As far as I know, VS will not recognize or see cue marks placed by other programs. Now just like MSP8, the F5 keyboard command works for adding Cue/Chapter marks. It's still undocumented. Also the Cue marks are for the project, and not specific to an audio or video track. I think in MSP you could have Cue marks for the audio track, or video track, and then Project markers.

Re: See .wav cue marks?
You have helped further identify the problem, thanks!
The problem in a nutshell is that VSP does not recognize the cue markers in .wav files (of course produced in other programs).
So how do most users deal with timing clips to music? Anything else I've tried is very imprecise compared to looking at the cue markers in the wave file.
Does anyone think this might be a good enhancement to VSP? Given that MSP has done it for years, can it be that difficult (I would hope MSP code is still around that could provide Corel with an approach)?
Thanks very much.

Not to sound condescending, but when working with audio I use my ears.

Re: See .wav cue marks?
What I have done, is put my music clip in an audio track, make sure the Chapter/Cue is set to Cue. I then press Play (spacebar), and keep tempo, adding a Cue mark at the beginning of each measure by pressing the F5 key. I may also add cue marks to some areas that have synchronized beats, such as triplets, or a change in rhythm. After that I will go back an listen while watching the time-line, checking to see if that's where I want my cues set. Once I'm satisfied, I then add my video or photos.
The only difference between VS and MSP and it's a big one, is that ability to have the program add your clips to the cues. MSP has a very nice way of doing this.

Re: See .wav cue marks?
Thanks to all. I use my ears too--it's just not as precise and predictable as adding cues.
But, absent an enhancement to bring VS up to where MSP was years ago, I think this answers my question well enough.
Again, thanks!
