Audio Problem in Project Mode But Not Clip Mode

Post by jharrer »

I've been using Video Pro X3 since it became available. I've used Ver. 11.5 and Ver X2. Just recently I am having a problem while playing back video in editing mode. When it is just the clip, everything is fine. When I switch to project the audio is choppy and intermittent. I'm running it on the same Windows xp machine I always have and I can't figure out what is going on. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Dell Vostro
Windows XP Intel Core 2 (2.33 Ghz, 4MB L2 Cache
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 Sdram
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100

Thanks,

John

You tell us absolutely nothing about what you project consists of. Right click on the clips and post the properties (audio, video, etc.). Are you using effects, filters, etc.?

Hi Guys
Same problem here (running VS X3 with latest patches)

I found out the issue coming from .MOV video files (audio Ok as a Clip and Choppy when selecting project).
Reading various posts on the web confirmed the .Mov format is a nightmare , but this is what comes out of my Camera.

This issue can be easily reproduced by created a brand new project, adding a .Mov file on the timeline and playing Clip & Project

i'll share anything I will find on this issue, can I ask you to do the same?

thanks - FRanck

Sorry.

Yep, the only difference was a new camera, Canon 550 D, that outputs in a .MOV file. No filters, no effects. I load one clip, 30 seconds long, shot in low res (640 x 480, 60 fps). Play the clip in "clip" mode and it's perfect. Play it in project mode and it's choppy.

Any suggestions? Need more information?

Thanks,

John

Hey guys,

I've also got same issue. I'm a newbie and using prox3 but can't find solution. Apparently there was/is a patch but it's not generally handed out???
Here's the link to previous post and patch. http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 84#p213163

I've asked for the patch link to be opened up again. I've also contacted Corel for this and if get any results will let you know

Hi John

Your camera records to Mov H264, I do not think this is fully supported by Video Studio, notice the “compression” line being empty. There should be no problems with playback. However you will not be able to render your video using these exact properties, but can re-code to other settings.

The Canon 550 D is a high quality still camera with movie capabilities. Not a dedicated video camera, saying that it does produce very good HD video I assume having a variety of video choices, 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720 and 640 x 480, have you tried the other recording options.

I have a 7D that uses the same type of video, I do not have a problem with playback.

If you cannot cure the problem using the updates provided by Edgar you could re-code the original video files for editing.

Rods…………
has provided a link to a post referring to the SK3329 update patch. It is only 6 Mb
I have a copy, if you want to try ---------- I can e-mail the patch
Send me a PM with your e-mail address

I have recently “clean re-installed” Video Studio, I have not installed this patch, all seems to work ok.

By the way Quicktime 7.5.5 was installed during the VS installation.

Thanks for the help. The solution was to do a complete format and re-install of XP and VS X3. A PITA but I have my program running correctly again.

I'm having the same problem except I have no sound in Project mode. I've been using version X2 for years with no problems. I tried the trial of X3 and it worked fine but I didn't have any need to upgrade. I decided to give the trial of X4 a go and really like it. It seems a lot more responsive.
Anyway, when I load certain AVI files, the sound is fine in Clip mode, but no sound at all in Project mode, and of course no sound on the output file. I still have X2 installed and the same file works just fine with it. It has to be something in X4. File works in X2, not in X4.
I have the K-Lite Codec Pack installed so I tried upgrading to the latest version. Then I uninstalled it and and installed the codecs from the links on this page. None of that helped.
I'm running Windows 7 64-Bit. I've tried it on a computer with Ultimate and Home Premium. Also before and after upgrading to service pack 1.
The file doesn't work uses the 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3 audio codec at 48000Hz 142 kb/s tot , Joint Stereo LAME3.9. If I load a video with PCM Audio, it seems to work.

I really hope you can fix this because X4 really seems to work good except for this one undesirable feature.

Hi there,

Just wanted to confirm Trevor's suggestion on how to fix this problem...

I was having the same, very frustrating issue with VS X3, where the videos would play fine in clip mode, but the sound was jumpy & erratic in project mode. Updates/reinstallation didn't help. However, the problem is now fixed (which is a big relief as I am a newbie to VS & was devastated when I couldn't even get my first project to work!!)

After reading Trevor's post, I realised that my Canon camera also captures video in MOV mode. I ran a batch convert for all the clips I wanted in my project, as Trevor suggested, changing them to MPEG mode (I'm a novice & assuming that this is what re-coding means). Voila! Problem solved. Videos now play beautifully in project mode.

Hope that might help others with the same problem.

Thanks for the suggestion - couldn't find any other info on this after hours of searching.

Cassie, Welcome to the forums, :) (Beautiful name, I have a daughter by the same name)

Thank you for providing the confirmation of Trevor's workaround/fix to this. :)

SYSTA,

I think the problem in your case is due to the Lame MP3 codec used. VS has never got along with MP3's using that codec, and probably never will. My suggestion would be to convert those audio files to WAV before introducing them to VS.
