Combine two projects

Post by finchp57 »

I have created two projects, it now seems sensible due to subject to add these two edited projects together to form one project and burn to DVD , any ideas how this is done ?

There's a few ways to do this. First you want to make sure that all video clips use the same Field Order, you can not mix clips using different field orders. To join them in one project, just start a new project, then using insert video file, locate your projects (VSP) files, and insert them. They will be treated as video clips. Then go to share>Create Video file, to render your project to a video file.

You could also render each project to it's own video file, then insert them into your DVD authoring program, which is...??? Which also brings up the question what program are you using to edit your video? Is it VideoStudio, if so what version?

I recall reading elsewhere on this forum (a long time ago, don't recall the thread) that the above technique was not recommended as far as combining projects. Is this approach now okay to do? Is it still the case for version X2? Base upon previous threads I have always rendered each project then inserted the rendered clips into the new summary project. I would prefer the approach outlined by you because if I need to make a change I can do that directly in the affected project and not need to re-render it.

Rick,

You could do it in the earlier versions too. The caveat being, you can not edit the 2 VSPs that are in the 3rd VSP (the project created to join the other 2), because they are treated as video clips. If you want to edit them, you would need to open the respective project. When you insert VSP files as video clips, it's called nesting.

I agree that rendering each project (VSP) to a video file, be it MPEG-2, WMV, or whatever, is the method I prefer and follow. The above was pointed out as just one option.
