When I try to create a WMV HD 1280x720 file, VSX2 tries to use this:
Windows Media Video
24 bits, 208 x 160, 20 fps
Frame-based
22.050 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Windows Media Video 8 for Color Pocket PCs (225 Kbps)
When I try to create a CUSTOM profile, only WMV 8 profiles are shown. No WMV 9 or Ulead profiles.
Checking my C:, WMV 9 profiles are all present here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Components\Encoder\Profile
I've installed the latest versions of WMV 9. Still no luck. Any ideas?
VideoStudio Pro X2
Windows 7
AMD Phenom II X6 2.6 Ghz
6 Gig Ram
VSP X2 can't see Ulead WMV 9 profiles [FIXED]

Hi
This has been mentioned before, i am sure there was a result.
Cant think of it at the moment, but the grey matter is starting to churn.
Windows 7 comes to mind?????????????

I searched the forum before posting. Some people said they solved it but didn't say how
Some said they installed WMV 9. Was already on machine. Reinstalled it. No dice. Still only WMV 8 profiles show up in VS X2.

Hello cmfslc,
VS X2 is not compatible with Windows 7, you may want to download the VideoStudio Pro X2 Ultimate Service Pack 2 to fix this compatibility issue.
You can download the Service Pack 2 here

Re: VSP X2 can't see Ulead WMV 9 profiles
I installed the service pack and patch when I installed VS X2 last October. I'll download this one and re-install everything and see if that helps. I was hoping for an easier fix
Re: VSP X2 can't see Ulead WMV 9 profiles
This method works for me with windows Vista and VSX2,
Do not open VideoStudio yet
1 – Open “Windows Media Profile Editor” (type from the start search menu or locate from all programs) and create your profile.
2 – Save the profile and close the editor
3 – Open the editor again and select “Import”
4 – Locate your created profile and delete (to the recycle bin) then close the editor
5 – Cut and paste your created profile from the recycle bin to the desk-top (permissions may be asked for)
6 – Locate the “Profiles Folders” on the OS drive e.g. Computer > Local Disc C > Program Files >
Windows Media Components > Encoder > Profiles.
7 – Cut or Copy your created profile from the desktop into the “Profile folder” (permissions will be asked for) and close the folder.
Open VideoStudio, your new profile should now be available?
Share > create video file > custom > save as type: windows media video > options > Profile tab > Profiles drop-down menu.

Re: VSP X2 can't see Ulead WMV 9 profiles
Duh.
Pilot error. Someday I'll learn to follow directions more closely. I had installed something called Windows Media Encoder 9 SDK (or something to that effect) that I downloaded from Microsoft. Turns out that wasn't the encoder--it's just an interface to the encoder, and the encoder doesn't come standard on Windows 7 (as I had presupposed). WMV 9 isn't available on Microsofts website either. They quit supporting it in 2010. They want you to migrate to MS Expressions 4 (I must admit, is does do nice encoding--I may skip encoding through VS x2 and just use that. My one test came out beautiful. But I digress). I found WM Encoder on CNET.com. Installed it. Voila! Profiles magically appeared.
WMV encoding doesn't work? Install Windows Media Encoder 9, just like everyone said.
Thanks guys.
