No Pause

Post by alanrwood »

PSP Photo X3. Fully updated in Win7 32 bit.
Installed and then updated with 4 updates as from Corel Updates.
In Organiser picked the sample wmv file and tried to play it. PSP went into some update routine which lasted ages and required the install disk. Afterwards had the "DetectLanguage() Failure" message. Found the registry mod to add "EN" to Lang key.

Ran PSP again and all seemed OK but when playing the file would not pause.

Uninstalled the lot and reinstalled as above and still same problem.

Did same on a second machine to check if I had made an error but this is the same.

Any ideas as I am unable to take a copy of a frame as should be available.

Hello alanrwood,

It appears that the problem is that you are trying to open a file that PSP X3 does not support. WMV is a video file and PaintShop Photo Pro X3 cannot open video files.

Abiel, all the files on that list are only image files. None are video files. Yet on this page http://product.corel.com/help/photopro/ ... #wp1229052 you can clearly see under "To play a video from a thumbnail" an example shot of a wmv file.

alanrwood, I'd assume that either Patch 3 or 4 broke the program as I can't even access the video files that I used to be able to do before. But if I remember correctly you have to play the thumbnail and pause the thumbnail, which is different than playing and trying to pause from the preview. i.e. play and pause that tiny video thing at the bottom, not the normal sized thing at the top. I hope that makes sense.

Hi Abiel

I'm sorry but you are incorrect in this. In Organiser it is possible to play mov, avi and mpg files. I can do this easily and as df has pointed out. We all learn something every day??? but thanks for taking the time to respond. I am always grateful for any input.

Hi df

Yes I understand perfectly which is exactly what I do. It is possible to play the files by using the blue triangular icon above the preview area (Quick Review) and also the pause works there however the facility to pause and capture a screen shot of that frame is not then available.

I had a long conversation with Corel support who told me my video drivers were out of date (Issued in Jan 2011) and that I should be using DivX 11 (which I am in Win 7). The conversation ended quite acrimoniously with her not really giving any sensible answer. Also it should be noted that Corel internet help is in a shambles with broken links, page unavailable etc and circular trips to get back to the same page. New system coming they said but don't know when and until then the attitude seems to be "tough luck" put up with this non-help system. Anybody with any sense does not break a system until the new one is in place and not piecemeal as Corel seem to be doing. Moan over!!!

I did update the video drivers to a version dated a couple of weeks later but it made no difference.

Been playing around with it most of the day and found that the pause does work on some files of each type but it is not consistent as aftyer this I went back to the original file I had a problem with it then worked a few times before again reverting to no action.

To explain a bit more, I am very much the newbie in this version of PSP. I last used V8 which was when it was a JASC product but have been using Gimp for a couple of years. I got fed up of the long boot time so decided to go back to PSP when it was pre-installed on my wife's new laptop. I therefore bought the boxed version and decided to learn it properly instead of struggle. I bought a great book to teach myself so I have been following it through which is when I found this problem so I knew it should do what it said it should do.

You may have a point about it coming about due to the updates, I have not tried a re-install and attempting it. I am loath to do this as the Control Paneluninstall is pretty poor and leaves a lot of junk behind (I had this problem with my wifes machine) and the support told me then that there is no Corel Program specific installer that clears everything out. I have also been on another forum and in one post there was a link to a Corel PSP un-installer however that link is also now unavailable on the Corel site. I could use Revo Uninstaller but even that had a problem last time.

I might try and clean install it on a spare machine I have at my holiday home next time I go there and take it from there however I think the boxed version I bought was only issued in Nov 2010 so probably already incorporated the updates as I did notice that installing updates 1 & 2 seemed to put the version back and then it came forward with updates 3 & 4.

Hope that explains where I am coming from and any other contributions would be gratefully received.

Regards to both and thanks again for your efforts.

Alan
