PRO X 3....GETTING BOOTED EACH TIME I TRY TO EDIT
I have been using it for a while... now, each time I try to play a clip, and attempt to edit, the system shuts down. Is this common? What is happening, and how can I fix it?

Video Studio is probably having trouble with the audio/video file(s) you're feeding in. You'll probably have to convert the files to a different format (or re-encode them) with a 3rd-party program.
But, before we can help you with that, what format are your files, and where did they come from?
What output format do you want, or what are you planning on doing? (Making a DVD, or Blu-Ray, uploading to YouTube, etc.?)

I am editing videos to save for now, and output them later. The vids have been imported through my sony-hd cam, through pmb. Some of my vids in my documents have thumbnails, some do not. Im 'learning-as-I'm-doing" lol!!
