There are some reps from Corel that do participate. However they are volunteering their time here, it is not as a part of their normal support duties. This web board is, as it's name specifies, a User to User web board. It is staffed by, and for all users of Corel's digital media products, to help each other. So the lack of response by any Corel representatives, is not a reflection of their support.

FWIW, I'm using Q.T. version 7.6.9(1680.9) on my WinXP machine, which is a single-core AMD, and do not have the crashing when creating 3-D videos. So either I'm extremely lucky, an exception to the rule, or this crash is not due to a specific version of Q.T.

I just thought I'd update this thread.

The 3D is currently still not working.

The last message requested me to remove software from 3 "vendors". The "software" being Nero 7, K-Lite Codec Pack and AVS4YOU. This would mean uninstalling a total of 17 programs. This is a completely unacceptable and inconvenient "ask" to troubleshoot this problem.

One "program" suggested, K-Lite Codec Pack, was previously completely uninstalled/removed from my system a few weeks ago after a request to uninstall it to see if that was the cause. The 3D error still occured. To me, that means it was causing NO problem - so I re-installed it. Now, they're asking for me to remove it again.

I'm sorry, but if 99.9% of Corel VideoStudio X4 is working, then these and all other programs on my computer cannot possibly be the cause of the problem.
Uninstalling a ton of software as a trial and error troubleshooting method is not on.

One last thing - I submitted some dump files to Corel created by Corel VS X4 after the 3D error program crash, only to be told that they don't have the resources to analyze them.
I am sure these would immediately determine this 3D problem.

Hi Mike

First I don’t have a problem creating 3D video
I have some AVS4you programs installed
I have Nero6 installed
I do not have K-Lite, I haven’t had the need to install additional codec packs.

Something on your pc is causing this problem.
Its difficult if not impossible to locate the cause without uninstalling some programs.
Once you have uninstalled I would recommend re-installing Video Studio, a Clean Re-install of all Corels/Ulead products, purging your pc of remaining Corel/Ulead files before re-installing.

When you uninstalled K-Lite, did you also re-install X4?

If it were Video Studio at fault then everyone would have the problem.

Lars Erik is still having issues with white 3D video, maybe you should make contact to find out what programs you have in common, For instance I know you both have K-Lite installed?
You both use XP..................

No. They didn't ask me to at that time. I'd sent them a System Information File as requested, they replied back to uninstall K-Lite.
I was having this 3D problem with the trial which I downloaded. I did uninstall the trial, restart computer before reinstalling the boxed version - the 3D problem still existed.
Personally, I don't think the software installed on my computer is at fault - otherwise, it would conflict with other programs surely, not just target the 3D creation. But I am sure I'm missing something needed for the 3D. I also installed and updated some items as they requested.

I will uninstall K-Lite Codec Pack again. I will uninstall VSX4 again with the same uninstaller tool Corel recommended.
Incidentally, Corel asked me to install another Codec Pack. (It contains all the ffdshow stuff I have that K-Lite installed).

I'll let you know how I get on.

We always recommend extreme caution about installing any codec packs, and more often than not K-Lite is a culprit for a number of problems. Such packs have their uses, but you need to know exactly which codec(s) you are after, and simply download them from the pack. Installing an entire codec pack willy-nilly almost inevitably results in problems. That is because they are usually thrown together for quantity rather than quality. Many of the codecs in such packs conflict with each other, and of course can also conflict with codecs installed or used by programs such as VS. So I would be interested to know which pack Support advised you to load. Was it a general pack, or one specially containing ffdshow and its related codecs?

Here's what I've just done.

I completely removed K-Lite Codec Pack.
I then used the VS Clean-Up tool as recommended by Corel and removed, again, VS X4.

I then ran CCleaner registry cleaner, Auslogics Registry Cleaner and Registry Mechanic to remove any obsolete entries that may have been left.

I then re-installed VS X4.
I tried to create a 3D video. It failed again creating more (useless) dump files.
Next, I installed ffdshow tryouts and the Xvid codec as Corel suggested. And still the 3D is failing.

I'm not going to un-install Nero and AVS4YOU as I don't believe they are the cause, and they are approaching 1GB of program data.
(In the same way I didn't think K-Lite Codec Pack was the cause. And obviously, it isn't hence the 3D crashing without it).

Looks like I'll make do without the 3D.

Hi Mike

I mentioned in an earlier post regarding a Clean Install.
Some files are common files/shared files used by all Video Studio products
Uninstalling Video Studio X4 will not remove all files on your pc.
This has to be done manually. (did you do this??)
If one or more of these are causing the problem then re-installing will make no difference.

With recent versions of VS Corel have provided a Clean-Up tool, but this will not remove the shared files.

In a nutshell we are uninstalling all Corel/Ulead products, then purging the PC of all remaining files associated with Corel/Ulead.
I must stress that we do not remove video files or VSP project files, just the ones that make the program work, or not as the case may be.

Given time I will run a test to see which files remain after uninstalling……….

I removed the program in the way Corel support suggest (using the removal tool).
I do have Corel VideoStudio X2 installed aswell - but only because it contains some NewBlue effects that are not included in X4. It has not been suggested to remove that.
But surely whatever is causing the problem would do more than just affect only the 3D error?

Do these attached error messages mean anything to anyone?
According to a Google search, I found this answer:
This error is sometimes caused by a buffer overrun, where there is an array of a certain length and characters are written beyond the end of the array, overwriting other things in memory.

Hi Mike

The images mean nothing to me at all, sorry.

I can only reiterate that some files are used by both programs and may not be overwritten when installing X4.
I have decided to do a clean install, not that I have a problem, I am interested in what files are remaining after uninstalling.

I suppose I am Just a glutton for punishment……….

Hello.

I just thought I'd give an update.

I never did get Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 to make 3D videos.

Anyway, as soon as Video Studio Pro X5 was released, I installed it. It "created 3D" video straight away.

I'm not sure why I even bothered though. The finished video doesn't even resemble 3D as there is no 'depth' to it

From what it looks like, each frame is doubled, tinted the appropriate 3D colour, one frame is vertically shifted then overlayed on top of the other. Cheap and nasty effect.

Not quite right. The frames do not have a tint applied. With anaglyph 3D, the left-eye frame has the green and blue channels removed, and the right-eye frame has the red channel removed. The frames have to be shifted left or right, not up or down. When making anaglyph 3D from 2D video, Corel, in addition, adds a little something extra, like a skew, to give it even more depth.

You can make almost-real 3D from 2D by using two instances of a video and offsetting one of them on the lower track by one or two frames. You have to create a split screen or PiP so that you see one video on the left half and the other video on the right half of the display. Only when the camera pans to the left or right will you see 3D. I'm able to cross my eyes and see the 3D effect in the preview window. A lot of editing is required because you have to change the way the videos are offset when the direction of the pan or movement changes. The output should be side-by-side. You do not use any of VideoStudio's 3D options. The side-by-side can be easily converted to other 3D formats, at which time you would use VideoStudio's 3D options. Corel VideoStudio is one of the few editors that will let you create full side-by-side video, where each side is 1920x1080. The video frame is 3840x1080.
