Cant create 3D videos
Hello,
After successfully using VideoStudio X2 for quite a while now, I’ve just updated VideoStudio X4.
My laptop meets the minimum specifications, however, I have just one problem with X4.
I can output to every file format including HD, but if I choose the 3D option, anaglyph or side by side, the program “crashes“.
I get 'the program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning' and 'the memory could not be read' errors. Both messages show 3 times each. The program will eventually close when I’ve OK’d all six messages.
I’ve tried different lengths of video, from short to long, but it makes no difference.
I don’t plan on doing loads of 3D videos, just the occasional short one for fun. Even though I find red/blue 3D video tiresome to watch, I would like to have a fully functioning program as everything else on X4 works like a dream.

Hi Mike
And welcome to the forum again, this time with success.
X4 function and 3D video is new to us all and we may struggle with a solution.
There have been few issues as to why VS crashes, the most common being running the latest Quick Time version. Reverting to an earlier version has cured this problem for most users.
However I do not know if X4 has problems with QT, maybe that will come when QT is updated.
Some info regarding reverting QT to an earlier version here. Can you give this a try?
If you still have problems can you provide details of the type of files you are using.
Right click a file and select properties, what are they?

Re: Cant create 3D videos
Hi.
I don't really want to revert to an earlier version of QuickTime (I was having problems with Starry Night Pro - there was a QuickTime problem, inc. graphics missing, that has now been solved). I currently have QT version 7.6.9 (1680.9).
I generally work with MPEG-2 files. Here's some typical values:
Video
Video type: MPEG-2 Video, Upper Field First
Total frames: 1,220 frame(s)
Attributes: 24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3
Frame rate: 25.000 frames/sec
Audio
Audio type: MPEG Audio Layer 2 Files
Total samples: 2,342,400 Samples
Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Layer 2
Bit Rate: 224 kbps
The program also crashes using 3D option with mp4 (h264), wmv and jpeg - sometimes I use images.
Even if I create a simple title sequence with no imported video, that will cause a crash, too.
So I don't think it is a video problem as such. It is only to do with the 3D aspect.
I have tried contacting Corel direct. I've registered the product successfully. However, after filling in all the relevent details on their form and submitting the question (the form also suggested a couple of solutions none of which were relevent), all I get is The page cannot be found so I am unable to get help from them as the message is not being sent.
One final point - after X4 crashes, 3 dump files are created but as I cannot contact Corel direct, I am unable to forward these to them for analysis.

Re: Cant create 3D videos
Hi Mike,
I have a similar problem but my program does not crash. When trying to create a 3D I get a file with a white screen but with correct sound. All other options work fine.
You can follow my tree below "Converting 2D to 3D in VSX4". I have got assistance from Trevor and Ken but no success so far.

Re: Cant create 3D videos
Hi again.
OK - I decided to downgrade QuickTime (I got this installer from Apple website as currently the link posted earlier is not currently working).
I'm now running QuickTime 7.6.472 (and my Starry Night program still works).
Anyway, when I now try to create 3D video, the program still crashes, but this time I only get 2 error messages (instead of 6).
I click OK to close both of them, but the last message wont close the program properly this time - I have to close it manually (a right click on the Tab in the taskbar>Close does the trick).
I feel there is a little progress being made - but something else must be causing the 3D videos to not be created.

Re: Cant create 3D videos
Today, I discovered iTunes wont launch as it is incompatible with the older QuickTime I reverted back to yesterday.
So I've had to update QuickTime for it to work.
Looks like creating 3D video is a no-no.
Corel really need to look into this.
Are they relying on third party software to make certain functions within X4 work?

Re: Cant create 3D videos
@Black Lab
QuickTime?
I'm assuming QuickTime may be part of the problem with not being able to create 3D videos for me.
As I said, going back to previous version only caused 2 error messages. Latest version of QuickTime causes 6 error messages.
I was wondering why it was suggested to downgrade? It sounds like Corel is "relying" on QuickTime somehow, as it shouldn't really matter what version of QuickTime I have if Corel VS X4 doesn't rely on third party software.
Everything "needed" to create 3D videos should be installed off the program disc I purchased. It's baffling why the 3D wont work for me.

Re: Cant create 3D videos
Please correct me if I am wrong, but any video editing app that accepts .mov files will "rely" on QuickTime to manipulate them.

Re: Cant create 3D videos
@Black Lab.
What I meant (to say) was that X4 shouldn't be relying on a particular version of QuickTime.
As I generally work and export to MPEG2, why would QuickTime really be the problem?
Anyway, this is getting me nowhere. I think the best thing to do is wait until Corel release some sort of update for X4 to see if that cures my 3D problem.
I am aware that many CAN create 3D videos on X4.

Re: Cant create 3D videos
Hi Mike
In the past, that may be as far as Video Studio 10 errors were occurring causing the program to crash.
It was found to be a Quick Time issue.
Users found that after updating QT, maybe with an auto update caused the problem. The solution was easy, revert back to the earlier version.
So a complaint about crashes usually received the standard reply to revert to an earlier version, that’s is what I advised you to do. In most cases this has certainly helped.
Corel Video Studio has to use QT and it can understand where the problem may occur
However I do not know if X4 suffers from the QT update affect.
Being a new program I would have thought not.
We can only wait and see what happens after the next update to QT.
Just for reference I am using QT 7.5.5 (249.13)
I don’t use I-Tunes.
You say
Uninstall QuickTime
Install X4, Quick Time should be installed from the disc, at least earlier versions used to install QT, whether X4 does??????????
You can then update QT if needed.
I run X4 on XP and am able to use 3D without problems.

Hi,
I've finally managed to contact Corel support directly.
Hopefully, the created dump files I have will shed some light on this problem once I can send them to Corel support.
I will let you know the outcome once (if) this problem is resolved.

Typical response time from support is supposed to be 24-48 hours.
5 days later and not a single response from them as yet.

Surely this cant be right.
Very poor customer service. I'm not impressed with them one bit
