VS X4 Books, Documentation, Tutorials?

Post by NikVid »

I just installed the VS X4 30-day trial. I managed to open a video from my hard disk using the Import feature. Even got to the Options but beyond things like changing brighness, contrast etc. I am totally and completely in the dark.

I tried the "tutorials". The constant background music is unbearable. Why would they use music at all? For a promo, yes. For a tutorial? No. To use rap type music with the singer talking in the background while an instrustor is talking in the forground is very invasive and makes it impossible to focus on what is being said.

I went into the application's Help and that is a bit better, but I feel like I need to know more than I do to really understand it. Overall it is a very frustrating experience.

Is there some kind of manual, book or tutorial that would, as an example, take you through creating a very simple project - say importing a video, adding a title, doing a simple dissolve, that kind of thing and then building on that, going into more sophistacted techniques and processes within that project?

Don't get me wrong. I have been a computer engineer over 30 years. A still photographer even longer. I have Paint Shop Pro X2 and just upgraded to X3. I love these products and I barely needed to read anything to start getting deeper into them.

But the concept of video editing appears a lot more more complicated. I need something to uncomplicate it. :(

If you look in the Product Tutorial section of the Board, there are a variety of tutorials there. One which goes through all the basics is Suggested Workflow: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 12#p101512 Although it was written quite some time and a number of versions ago, the basics are all still applicable.

You can also download a .pdf copy of the user manual for X4 from here :-

http://product.corel.com/help/video/540 ... oX4_UG.pdf

There are also a lot of tutorials on Youtube - just search for VideoStudio and you will get a large response which includes quite a few for X4.

I entirely agree with you NikVid, the background music on these tutorials makes the content meaningless as it is impossible to follow. The pictures are also too small to be of any real use.

Download the pdf manual. You will find it is much better. You get a printed manual with the boxed program.
