Hello All
I've just purchased the box version upgrade of Video Studio X4. I am currently running the X2 version. Do I have to uninstall my current X2 version before installing the new X4 or does the X4 just install over the X2 or remove it duirng the installation process?
Thanks
Kym

Hy Kym
You can install X4 with X2 on your system without problems.
You will be able to use either program, but only one at a time.
Most users have more than one program installed, i have VS 8, 9 10 X2, X4

Hello kmoulds,
Like what Trevor said, you can install both program even though VS X4 is an upgrade. Because VS X4 is will be installed on a separate directory.

Videostudio versions have always shared folders like the codec and the Ulead Systems ones. Either it works fine and then don't touch (in sense of don't remove) the old version, otherwise you break the new version, too. Or you remove the old one at first and install the new one after.
I recommend to remove all old versions (there are instructions in the knowledgebase on corel.com) and have only one version installed.

Hi
Well installing only the latest version would be all well and good if the latest version performed the same as the older ones.
Changes in the newer versions does sometimes take away some functionality that I found beneficial in the older ones.
I have problems capturing to DV-Avi via firewire. I have fixed the issue by using the older versions, and of late Win DV.
I realise that the programs share files, but installing Video in order of age will mean the latest shared files are installed. I haven’t noticed any problems when using the older versions.
I have to say that most are now used for reference when helping out on this forum.
I can say that X4 does seem to perform better than any version since VS 10.
Quite happy to continue using without reverting to earlier versions.
If the installation of only one Video Studio version is recommended is it documented by Corel?

No -- I think Simone was making it up as she went. Like you, Trevor, and more than a few of us here, I too have multiple versions of VS installed on the same computer -- mainly for the purpose of helping out here -- and all work well independently of each other. But there is also your point that some earlier versions did things better than later versions. I think particularly of the incredible stuff-up Corel made with VS X3 and its burning module. X2 was a good fallback for many users who were lucky enough to have those two versions. Though as you say, X4 has recuperated a lot of the lost ground -- so those users who are after the extra space now could happily uninstall the earlier versions...
