hi,
curious if anyone else has had this problem.
i have windvd 2010.
i've recently installed the latest update (version 10.0.5.713)
it looks like there's a bug when playing blu-ray discs now. i used to have this bug playing DVDs, but now it's come over to blu-ray. and curiously, DVD doesn't seem to be affected now.
whenever there is a block of red on the screen, this area becomes streaky/blocky. i've come across this many years ago and i think it's referred to as a "chroma" bug. even more bizarrely, this red area isn't just streaky. this area seems to move, almost to the point of pulsating.
watched a film recently where one of the characters wore a red t-shirt, and it looks alive.
This web link best explains what i'm seeing ... see the photo's at the bottom.

i have nVidia hardware acceleration enabled. I thought this might be to blame, but when playing back blu-rays on PowerDVD 7 (old version) with hardware acceleration enabled, this problem is not present. and i'm sure i didn't have this problem before this latest updated.
i have 2 displays attached to my PC, both of which exhibit this issue.
to say this is frustrating would be a gross understatement. what have the windvd team done ?
any one else with this problem ?
anyone from Corel out there ? got a fix ? or an explanation ?
thanks
Andy

My latest update version is 10.0.5.819 (WinDVD 2010 Pro).
1) Check within the application for the latest update. With Pro, click Corel Guide (clock) > Product Information and Preferences (gears) > Check for Updates.
2) Try disabling antivirus software.
3) Try disabling Duplex Secure:
http://www.duplexsecure.com/faq
4) Check for the latest optical drive firmware update.
5) Post back in this thread and apprise us of your progress (or lack of it).

Re: WinDVD 2010 - Upgraded but Downgraded
Nepenthe,
many thanks for your advice.
very strange. when i check for latest updates, it tells me there's no updates. even though my version number is lower than yours.
i uninstalled windvd, reinstalled latest graphics drivers, re-installed windvd. same goes.
and there's still no issue with PowerDVD 7. it can do reds fine. Windvd2010 cannot. it's a mess. streaking, pixelated, dancing shapes. that rules out a hardware issue i think. i wish i knew what was going on ?
i'm going to contact corel to see if they can get me the "latest" version.
i should point out that when i originally got the latest update from within WinDVD and installed the patch, AVG kicked up a fuss about one of the files. then proceeded to quarantine that file. and that was pretty much was the end of WinDVD.
so i went back to my original email from when i purchased WinDVD ,downloaded that file with the idea of applying the patches from the ground up. but i loaded this version up, checked for updates, and ... it tells me there's no updates. so i assumed corel had updated that file with the latest version. perhaps not.
anyway, thanks for the advice. last time i do an update to this player. what a nightmare.
