Video capture issues

Post by mindsketz »

i have a ulead video studio 11SE that came bundled with a firewire PCI express 400 card PEX1394A2DV which i installed. The computer identifies the card working properly but when I open the software it is telling me that there is no video capture driver. I have a sony DCR HC21 DV cam. I tried other free capture softwares like stoik ...and it does the same. I already spoke to the hardware vendor and they tell me its a software problem. Where do i get the video capture software? is it with teh bundled software VS11SE? thanks ... just wanted to go back editing my home vids.

Hi

welcome to the forums

Video Studio did have some problems with capture, but I think it was associated with analogue capture.

There is a free program called Win DV

Try this program, connect the camera to the pc via firewire.
Launch Win DV
When you switch on the camera the pc should recognise the device.
Choose Microsoft DV Camera and VCR as the video source. At least that’s what I see.

In addition from my pc’s Device Manager I see my camera listed in Imaging Devices.

Let me see:
1. You bought hardware that came bundled with software.
2. The software, that they provided, doesn't work with the hardware.
3. Hardware manufacture blames software, that they provided, for not working with their hardware.

:?

Sometimes it depends on the order in which you turn on the hardware/software. First try opening VS to the capture stage, then turn on your cam. If that doesn't work try turning on your cam before opening VS. Sometimes cams have a setting for output. Also, make sure your cam is set for VCR/VTR, not record.

Can you capture with Windows Movie Maker?

You might need to use the legacy firewire driver, see here for how to engage it.

Hello mindsketz,

You may also want to take in consideration that VS 11 is not compatible with Windows 7.

You can visit http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 4516325170, to know which version of the Corel Software is compatible with Windows 7.

There is a workaround for you to make old program works on Windows 7, however we cannot assure you this is a 100% fool proof. You can use the Windows 7 Program Compatibility and the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC, which are both from Microsoft.

You can follow the steps for Windows 7 Program Compatibility from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... of-Windows

You can download and install the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx (still depends on your Windows 7 edition)

You also want to consider upgrading your Corel software, since the latest version of VideoStudio is full compatible with Windows 7, you can download the 30 day full working trial at http://www.corel.com/trials.
