problem with size of saved copies

Post by mommakim »

I'm opening a photo and making some minor adjustments, then when I save it the KB is about half the size. For a normal picture it would not matter, but I'm trying to make a poster and its saying the
file is too small for a poster.

Is there a way to default or save it as the original size? I have PSPX2. thx

You have to decrease the compression level before you save.

When you click Save As and the dialog pops up go down to the options button and click it. And then lower the compression factor slider. The lower the compression the larger the file.

Thanks...I see exactly what you're talking about...so I lowered the compression to the lowest it will let me "1" but when I upload the photo for poster print...it still says it is not recommended for the size
I'm trying to print. When I take the original, it is fine to print that size... any thoughts????

Well, the size in KB has very little to do with how well it prints out as a poster.

What site are you uploading to? Do they have rules for the print size settings for a poster?

What is the print size and resolution of the original image?
2 ways to check this information
1) In Windows Explorer right-click on the image and select Properties. Under Details you'll see the PIxels and the DPI for that image.

2) Open up the image in PSP and hit Shift+I or go to the Image menu and select Image Information. You'll see a print size in inches as well as a DPI.

You should do both and compare the DPI. Does it appear different in PSP?

Depening on your site's rules for making the poster you may have to resize the image with the appropriate DPI and width and height. You can do this with the resize command. Image->Resize just enter in the appropriate DPI and width and height for the print.

I'm sure more professional printers and photographers, Df for example, will be able to give you a better idea of what's going on but the site should tell you the best which sizes are necessary for a good poster from them.
