Object Extractor

Post by arehadfield »

Ok i'm trying to extract myself from a picture

I use the extractor and it works fine but I want to save the image by itself but every time I save it as a jpeg the surrounding white is still there so its the same size image where everything else is white and my face is just chilling in the middle... I want to be able to paste my picture in a word document but it's hard to use because its a big white square with me in the middle. I saw some youtube videos where he used the extractor, copied it and pasted it on another picture but I don't want to do that I want to save it and use elsewhere!

You can't save it as a JPEG because JPEG can't save transparency (the area around the extracted portion is transparent). The only real options are PSPIMAGE or PNG.

To use in a Word Processor the only real option would be PNG then.

But you need to set up the transparency options for PNG before it will save with them....or at least I had to. When I first started saving in PSP PNGs did not have transparency turned on by default.

But, whether you need to or not it's best to double check.

So when you go to save your image select PNG from the file type drop down and select the "Options" button at the bottom of the dialog.

In the dialog that pops up hit the "Run Optimizer" button.

In the dialog that pops up from that select the "Transparency" tab and make sure the use "Alpha Transparency" radio button is selected and the "Use current layer" transprency is selected. This will allow tranparency, and will base that transparency on the transparent areas of the layer.

Also since it's just your head make sure to crop the image down so that it's not a large blank area surrounding your head. That just puts everything off in the word processor.

ok sweet that works thanks guys

but yeah cropping is their a way to outline an object with the cropping tool instead of only being able to make the square crop and still save it as a jpeg?

None that I'm aware of. Even if you use the selection tool and crop to selection, you will still end up with a square or rectangular crop.
