HOW did I make this photo, please!

Post by redbird985 »

Am using Paint Shop Pro XI, and I DON'T know how on earth I got the photo I did. I downloaded a color photo of my daughter and her boyfriend, obviously changed it to black and white, and I don't remember how I did this part, but the leaves on the tree in the background are GLOWING like little light spotlights are on them. Very softly, you can't even really tell they're leaves. It's more like little clumps of spotlights where the leaves should be. Her face in the foreground is 'soft', and glowing a tiny tiny bit around her profile.

I opened EVERY EVERY tab in Paint Shop Pro, and looked at every thing that would open up. I mean Everything! It's definitely not something that was done under "Effects" ...looked at every one of those.

I actually love the photo, and would like to do it again as a gift on another photo... but I don't know how!

I know this is all vague and kind of strange, but I would appreciate any help.
I can email a photo if need be. My alternate email is: SCHLLING985_AT_GMAIL_DOT_COM

Thank You Very Much

Welcome to the forums, :)

I moved your post to the PSP forum, where you stand a better chance of getting a reply sooner. Also I took the liberty to edit your post, altering the email address, replacing the "@" and period. Posting email addresses in open forums, is not a good idea, unless you really enjoy getting tons of spam.

Unless you prefer not to, you can upload an image to the forum. It must be no greater than 2Mb, and 800pxs on it's largest side. Just click on the Upload attachment tab, found in the lower left, when you're posting. You can also upload it to a hosting service like Imageshack, and just place a link to that photo here on the forum.

To be honest this does sound like Effects > Photo Effects > Infrared Film.

I would be interested to see your picture if you post it. In the mean time, you may be able to find something in the Effect Browser (in the Effects menu). I don't use it much, but it is sometimes helpful for this type of thing. There is also the possibility that the photo is the result of a combination of changes.

Without the original picture I couldn't be sure but it seems to be a regular glow effect.

If it's a glow effect the idea is simple, you duplicate the layer perform a a decent Gaussian blur and then change the blend mode. You can then erase or mask out areas that are over doing the blur or you can simply lower the opacity of the layer to allow more of the background to show through.

So it's not an actual filter but a method. Then again there does seem to be some good contrast at the same time....so no idea really.

That may just hit it on the money, particularly if you use values like 30, 100, and 0, for Strength, Flare, and Grain, respectively.

I also tried applying the User Defined Filter as follows:
UserFilterExample.jpg
Experiment with the values to your liking.

In either case, a little overall softening may help achieve the effect you want. (Good picture, by the way.)

THANK YOU ALL for trying to help me. I did ALL the tips posted, and, nothing. I am pretty inexperienced with these things, so I would think and I sort of remember only clicking a couple of things to get to this effect.
But again, it's very kind of you all to try and help me. Very kind.

Sincerely...
Donna
