VSX3, burning plain DVD w/o Menu's

Post by brucefl »

Hi,

Wish I had known X4 was coming out just installed x3 in January.
Anyways.
I did a project and went to burn to Share DVD, it gave me 2 options, I picked DVD factory pro 2010 first, which I can not burn w/o a menu apparently?
So, then I tried, Corel movie Factory 7 SE, when I click the share, create disk and click this option it opens CMF7, then my project disappears?
VSX3 closes. It seems I can do what I want to in CMF7, and I can not seem to import the VS file into there either, so I seem to be stuck using Pro2010?
thanks
Bruce

Yes -- DF 2010 insists that you have a menu; no option.

And yes, MF 7 SE (and Pro) cannot accept VSP files from X3. But the idea is that in X3, after editing, you go to Share > Create Video File > DVD (if that is what you intend to produce) or AVCHD/Blu-Ray if you intend to produce one of those discs in MF. Then when the new file is created, you open MF 7 and insert the new file there. And don't think this workflow takes any longer than a few seconds that you would using the VSP file. This is because, if the VSP file could be inserted, it would still need converting to DVD-compatible mpeg-2 (or AVCHD/Blu-Ray formats) before it could be burned to disc. And the conversion process would take the same time in X3 as it would in MF. Only in using the VSP route (if you could), you would be adding a complicated process to an already complex burning process.

HI, I will try creating a video file first then (Share, create Videofile, then open MF7SE.

I guess I am so use to previous versions when I went to share, create dvd, then it would open the program "automatically" then would work
from the program and the menu's?

I am assuming then, this is no longer the case with the newer versions of VS?

No -- X3 was definitely an aberration. Corel tried to introduce the hopeless DVD Factory 2010 as the one and only burning module, but was quickly howled down by outraged users!! So then they tried to save the day by offering a slightly cut down version of the older MF 7 which had been written well before X3 was ever conceived -- hence, its code cannot recognise X3 project files.

But you will be pleased to know that with the recently released VS X4, Corel have seen the light and reincorporated the "old" tried and true burning module back into the main editing program, so if you acquire it, you can revert to your old workflow.

Mind you, many of us still use the workflow of preparing our output file in the editing module (Share > Create Video File), and then burning that, rather than trying to burn the project file (VSP) straight off. It certainly seems to cause less problems that way.

It does seem to burn a little quicker, although the file I had to burn was really short.
I guess I will find out with the next project. Just takes a little getting use too.

Though if I had not just bought x3 in January would be easier lol
With X3 they should not have given the option to burn directly from
MF7SE, and they could of at least updated the program instead of given
an older version.

I have quite a big project I need to do in the upcoming weeks so I will see.
Thanks for the input and answers as always,
Bruce
