A Frustrated User...

Post by 4einc »

Hey guys;

I'm seriously getting very frustrated to the point of I think I'm bald from pulling out my own hair...

OK so here's the deal... I recently purchased PSPX3 and I can't get the thing to install... at first I did have a previous PSP install (Ver 9) but I uninstalled it before I attempted to install X3.

So when I attempt to install x3 I hit one of two problems:

1) it hangs trying to install the WMencoder ... I don't mean hang as in 4-5 min I mean 4-5 HOURS.. I set it up last night at 5am to install thinking when I woke up it would have been done... well when I woke up at noon things weren't done it was still trying to install the WMencoder...

2) I get some memory error. (can't recall it right now)

I've tried downloading the installer 3 times now... from: FileHippo.com, download.com & MajorGeeks.com
and the same thing keeps happening... I remember using PSP9 and loving it but I'm seriously wondering about using PSP again.

Oh and before I click submit I know alot of people will tell me to call in to Corel, however I don't want to rack up a huge amount of coin on my phone bill cause I'm having financial trouble as is...

Welcome to the forums,

Have you tried downloading it by chance from... Corel? http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 2796555406

Since you're having these problems, and you stated that you downloaded it from all those other sites, I think I would try getting it straight from the source. It may not help, but we don't know until tried.

alright... tried to install... it's claiming that there is already a version of the software on the computer... now I know I've uninstalled it and I've done every step (including removing registry keys) that I have found posted on either this board or direct from the Corel site...

I double checked that nothing from the PSP9 was left and it had a empty folder... I doubt that had anything to do with it... but i removed it anyways... i'll try again even though I don't think that was the problem... so you can start firing off solutions at anytime

There's something really messed up. I have PSP 9, PSPP X2, and PSPP X3 all installed on my desktop, running WinXP. I've had to re-install a few times, and never had a problem with the program not wanting to install. Just the inconvenience of having to contact Corel to reset the activations. However I have the full ESD, and keep the install files backed up.

Do you have more than one user account on your system? If so, are you attempting to install it on an account that is limited? If not, try creating another user account, making it an Admin one also. Then log onto the new account and see if it will install. Sounds a little goofy, but it has worked for others in the past.

I can't help but agree saying that something is really really messed up. as i can install PSP9 without issues.. but for some reason version x3 dislikes me...

you seem to be a expert on the program, does PSPx3 have any compatibility problems with another bit of software ??

I guess i'm not ment to own pspx3 i guess i should get in touch with the company i purchased it from and ask for a refund as it won't even install on my system

Not that I'm aware of. I've had Adobe PS Elements, other Ulead/Corel products, CorelDraw, PhotoImpact, various freebies installed, and PSP X3 never had issues with them.

There might be the cause of the problem, not sure without knowing further. Whom did you purchase it from? That doesn't account for a TBYB from Corel's site to refuse to install though. It might however, have planted something on your system, that only reformatting will get rid of.

That site is a fake reseller of pirated software based in Russia using a website registered in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. They claim to have an office in Georgia (the USA Georgia, not the former Soviet state), but that appears to be just a convenient and attractive photo of an office building. They claim to sell OEM software, but that is only available with a new computer.
Unfortunately, I think you've been conned.
The first thing I would do is contact Corel. Although I seriously doubt it, I could be wrong, and you may have bought from a registered reseller. If not Corel might like to know about the dodgy reseller and may have further information for you about cleaning up the faulty installation.
Secondly, I'd review everything that took place when you bought the software.
Did you download anything from them? If so I would suggest scanning your computer with several anti-malware programs such as the free versions of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware, and Spybot - Search & Destroy.
Did you give them your credit card details? If so contact your bank who may be able to reverse the transaction and protect you from any future unauthorised use of your credit card.
Did you give them any other personal information? In that case you may be at risk of identity theft. I'd suggest looking at the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, or do a web search for advice in your local area.

Hopefully they will be happy enough to have conned you out of the purchase price and won't go any further, but I think it would be worth taking those precautions.

Tim;

Thanks... I'm requesting a refund... I wish that Corel would post a link to "registered resellers" to help keep people safe..

I did download from them but it didn't install all the way it claimed a memory problem...

I'm currently scanning my computer with Super AntiSpyware i'm going to follow that up with MalwareBytes.

to be honest I only went with them cause I'm on hard times and wish I could have purchased PSPx3 direct but couldn't afford it for $50.

Hopefully Corel will have a sale on things for a little bit cheaper than what they do have things for so I can get my hands on a copy of PSPx3.

I'm 90% done my first scan and so far clean... After the two AntiSpyware scans I'll be scanning with Avast as well.
I have no plans in formatting my computer as things seem to be running fine (minus the problem of can't install PSPx3)

Just a thought and you may have tried this already, but if the installation of the 'questionable' software wasn't too long ago, can you revert to a restore point prior to the installation? If so, try the Corel download and see if it will let you install it.

Kathy;

Thanks for the advice I was actually one step ahead of you as last night I tried to revert and well it failed (kinda reminded me of high school all over again)... but thanks for the idea.

THANK YOU to everyone... For anyone interested I got my money back from the company then I found out that Amazon.ca has a sale on PSPx3 as you can see here:
http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1 ... hop+pro+x3
As it's $40 so I jumped on it and now have it and can't wait to use it
