aspect ratio 4:3 problem

Post by dcailler52 »

Sir,
I have made a DVD, but when I play it the aspect ratio looks a little off. It is suppose to be 4:3. When I start it it looks fine at first and then it pops out a little and it looks stretched out vertically. Also it doesnt fill the screen completely horizonally. I recorded in 4:3. I have tried my Abobe software and it looks fine. When I check the properties from the timeline it says that it is indeed 4:3. I am using VS 14. I have checked all the settings and I can't find anything wrong. Can you tell me what I might be missing? Thank you.

How are you playing it? On your computer or a DVD player connected to your TV. If it's the latter that is usually a setting on the TV.

What kind of TV do you have? An HD model?

Black lab,

I have a Sony Trinitron TV. It is not a HD TV. When I play it on my MacBook it looks OK. I tried making a DVD with my ADOBE software and that looks normal. This is the first time I've used VS14. I've never had this problem with the other versions of VS. Thanks for trying to help me.

Hi

Can you tell us a little more about your source files.
We know that they were recorded in 4:3 but how did you get them onto the pc.
What process did you use to capture the video.

If you used Video Studio Capture Tab – Capture Video- DVD or Mpeg2 format then make sure you set 4:3 as the aspect ratio.
Capturing to the wrong aspect will mess-up / distort the video.

Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?

If they have been captured using 4:3 then make sure the Project Properties reflect the video properties.
As a footnote:-
Go to Settings-Preferences-make sure that Show Messages when inserting First Video is checked. Then insert your video to a NEW project.. This will then match the project settings to the video properties.
