Convert side-by-side 3D to anaglyph 3D?

Post by pennstat »

I just got a Panasonic SDT750 which includes a true 3D lens adapter that saves content as side-by-side 3D. Unfortunately, it appears that VSP X4 has no clue about side-by-side encoding and treats the entire frame as a "normal" 2D video file. Is there any way to convert a side-by-side-encoded 3D file to red/blue anaglyph within VSP X4? I saw a more cumbersome way using some open-source products; but considering that more and more 3D-capable camcorders are being released, I was disappointed that VSP X4 has a pseudo-3D generator that pretends to convert 2D to 3D, but yet it can't handle the real thing. :(

Does anyone know of a way to do this within VSP X4, or any I going to have to go that more cumbersome open-source route?

Hello pennstat,

Unfortunately at this time VS X4 will only interpret your side by side 3D video as a regular 2D video, since video from Panasonic SDT750 has already been encoded. Also VS X4 can only create a 2D video to 3D video and not 3D to 3D.

Well, technically side-by-side is 2D that's then interpreted later as 3D, but regardless ... I guess that's another feature to throw into the Wish List for a future version, preferably X5, especially now that Sony, JVC, and Aiptek now have 3D consumer camcorders out there as well.
