Re: Converting 2D to 3D in VS X4
Hi
1 / Have you tried using the library sample clips to create the 3D video?
Do you get the white frames when using all types of video or is it just associated with JVC Everio GZ-HD6AG video types.
2 / JVC Everio GZ-HD6AG, did the camera come with other software, if yes installing this on your PC may install Codecs associated with your video types.
3 / Can you make a sample available so I can try on my pc?
4 / Have you tried re-installing Video Studio X4.
Running out of ideas…………………..
Edited
The last paragraph on this page makes for interesting reading, although I don’t know when it was written

Trevor -- I assume you mean the last three paras i.e. the section labelled 'Editing'... And that article was written three years ago (March 2008). But you are right, it is probably still applicable, even though VS for at least the past two iterations, is supposed to be able to handle .tod files natively...

Re: Converting 2D to 3D in VS X4
Thanks for your efforts to help!
I have captured the files from the camcorder both directly with VSX4 as well as with the software provided together with the JVC.
No difference when rendering the files, only white screens.
When rendering a library sample clip it is the same result, only a white screen created at the rendering, so it does not seem to have to do with the .TOD files. The library clips are in .wmv...
Perhaps I have to re-install VSX4 even if everything else seems to work?

Re: Converting 2D to 3D in VS X4
FWIW, I have not played with the 3D function before this as I had been waiting for the arrival of the boxed version of X4, or more to the point, the 3D glasses!
They only arrived a day or so ago. So this morning I did a quick experiment, encoding a 2 minute, randomly chosen AVCHD clip in my collection, to an AVCHD 3D. The process took a while -- but it worked. Certainly the 3D effect is there with the glasses. However, I cannot say I was overly thrilled as there was still a very distinct, wide red ghost around everything as though the glasses were not meshing the red fully into the final image.
I will experiment further with this, using other formats, to see if I can minimise or eliminate the ghosting. Otherwise, I will be classifying this 3D effect as nothing more than a nice toy...!
EDIT: I have now also output the same file to Blu-Ray 3D and DVD 3D, but the thick, red ghosting persists in those as well. I will try using a different format as the original file, but don't have time right now.

Re: Converting 2D to 3D in VS X4
lassegus -- Trevor has already asked, but can you upload a small sample of one of your .tod files to a website so that we can download it and test it?
I don't think reinstalling X4 is going to change anything. Did you ever install the Cyberlink products that came with you camera? If so, do they give the ability to output your .tod files as more "standard" HDV? I suspect it may be the tags in the .tod encoding which could be causing this problem...

Re: Converting 2D to 3D in VS X4
Hello Trevor and Ken, thanks for your attention to help me.
I have tried to upload as an attachment a 5 sec. clip imported by VSX4 from my JVC camcorder in .TOD format but the upload fails on time-out...
More tests...
I rendered the clip to AVCHD 1440x1080 which gave a normal result. When taking that file with the suffix .mpg and tried to convert to 3D it gave also the bad result with only a white screen

Hi
I don’t understand, where you are trying to upload to?
How large is the 5 second file in Mb

Hello again,
The file is only 16247 kB and I try to use the "Upload attachment" function in the bottom of this "Post a reply"-form where I browse to the file and click on "Add the file"...

Hi
Sorry you cannot use the forum to upload files for transfer, that option (upload Attachment) is for inserting images to the forum.
The file is 16 Mb, you could try e-mailing but it may be too large for that. You will find my e-mail address via the Quick guide link below.
Do you use Windows Live Essentials, Windows Messenger will allow you to transfer large file sizes, both parties have to be on line at the same time.
Others may know of other means of transferring files..........

Re: Converting 2D to 3D in VS X4
Hi Trevor,
I made another experience...
I updated my videocard ATI Radeon 9800 PRO and the effect was that when rendering I got a black screen instead of white??
Perhaps that indicates that my videocard does not handle 3D in the correct way?

Hi Lars Erik
I sent you a link from my SkyDrive folder which would allow you to upload a sample video.
It has however to be under 50 mb, did you receive that e-mail?

Here's how:lassegus wrote:Where do I disable Smart render?
Click Share>Create Video File.
Choose the Output file format.
On the Create Video File screen, click Options.
Uncheck Perform SmartRender.
Click OK.

Re: Converting 2D to 3D in VS X4
More info..
I have converted my sourcefile in .TOD-format to several other formats by using the other options in VSX4 and rendered those with the 3D-option, but with no success. The results are only files without picture, only sound.
To test my own computer hardware and software i downloaded another software, Movavi Videoconverter 3D, and used my source files in .TOD-format as well as other formats and all worked perfect!
I got 3D-versions of my files.
It seems to be some limitation in VSX4 3D-option that affects my equipment which I don´t can find.
