Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
Hi,
I am trying to install VideoStudio Pro X4, which I've just downloaded.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. In the course of the installation, I get Error message 1935: Error 1935 with the following text: microsoft.vc80.atl,type="win32",version="8.50727.42",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"
At this point, the installer is trying to download Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package. But the problem is that Windows 7 does not allow me to install this: it isn't compatible with the system. Every time I try to install the package independently of the installer, I get a similar error message. When I go to properties in the install file, it does not include Windows 7 compatibility. So, the problem appears to be that the software needs a Microsoft package that doesn't run on Windows 7, and thus - bizarrely - may not be suitable for this operating system.
I'd appreciate any advice on this.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
Thanks - unfortunately I had already read that message, and it hadn't solve the problem. The reason appears to be, as I indicated, that Windows 7 is incompatible with Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package, which the software appears to need to download in order to install. On the face of it, the software seems to be incompatible with Windows 7.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
That would be incorrect, as there are many on this forum running VideoStudio on Win7. May be time to contact Corel tech support. On the face of it, the software seems to be incompatible with Windows 7.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
Thanks - I have done so. Of course, I'm aware that it can't be what it looks like. I am told that the most likely explanation is that one of Windows' very strict settings is blocking the installation. If it's use to others who have the same problem, I'd just like to share the process I've been through:
1) I have been advised to temporarily disable User Account Control, as well as firewall and anti-spyware & antivirus software, reboot, and re-attempt installation. This was unsuccessful.
2) I was then advised to set up a new admin account, log in to that, and attempt re-installation. This, too, was unsuccessful.
3) I am now going through a process of auditing the system using Winaudit to find the source of the problem. Technical Support will scrutinise the produced files and hopefully locate the underlying issue.
I hope this saves others some time and effort. My advice would be to try the above steps before contacting technical support, as - if it doesn't solve the problem - it will at least narrow it down.

Hello rseymour,
You may also want to check if your Windows 7 is updated and virus free. since I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit and I have not experience any installation issue either using the TBYB or the disc installation.

Also try installing by right clicking and "run as admin"

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
Just to bring you up to speed, as I see there have been some further replies. Under advice from the Corel website and technical support:
*I have tried running as admin, but it makes no difference.
*I have tried temporarily disabling anti-virus and anti-spyware software and installing as admin, but no dice.
*I have tried uninstalling potentially obstructive software - quite a lot actually - but the problem persists.
*I have tried running a comprehensive chkdsk, and cleaning up the registry, but it doesn't solve the problem.
The basic problem is with Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, which Corel VideoStudio needs to operate. The error message 1935 with HRESULT: 0x80070002 means that the system is unable to find the specified file. Quite what is causing this, I don't know. One possibility I have found by Googling is that there may be some piece of software, adware or spyware of which I am unaware which consistently deletes a necessary file component. So far, the problem has still not been resolved. I'm open to any suggestions or advice that anyone has, bearing in mind what I've said above.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
I've been following your situation with interest as I'm exactly in the same situation as your are. I paid for x4 - I had it working initially, it stopped working, I uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall with absolutely no success. I've probably wasted 20 hours over two weeks on this. I've downloaded it probably a half dozen times trying diff users, but no. Now I get the message that setup.xml is missing. I have a feeling that there is something in windows blocking it - but I can't figure out what it is.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
Sad to say I have had absolutely no success with this installation, just wasted a lot of time. I have actuallly downloaded and installed Power Directory. I'm going to give this a try on my next project.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
Same here! I tried to install on two different Windows 7 machines and it won't go. Goes fine in Vista, though. I tried all of the above and none of it works. Corel really needs to make a patch or cleaner for this.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
Wondering if anyone at Corel is working on this? Not being about to install to Window 7 is a pretty big deal for the newest version of a software.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
Hi rseymour,
When you downloaded the installer, did you use RUN or SAVE?
It would be best to use SAVE when downloading the installer of the program.
Also, just to verify, have you installed updates for your Windows 7 via the Windows updates as what Abiel Corel NA suggested?

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio Pro X4
FWIW, the setup.xml file is located in Vista and WinXP;
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4\Setup\{AA902C31-B49D-4608-BCCF-2519EB77722D}
In fact it appears that all the setup files are located in that folder, which the alpha-numeric inside the brackets may not be the same. In checking my installs, there's only one such bracketed folder under the Setup folder.
You might try copying the setup.xml file from the DVD to the folder listed above to see if you can uninstall.
