How do I create an effect like this?

I'm trying to create an image like the one below. I've created a grey / black gradient (you can't see the black in the image below its at the bottom of the image), I've been trying to create an opaque gradient, with light blue, but I can't achieve this effect.

Also I'd like to create a similar grid effect as the image below.

Can anyone point me in the right direct ?

Ok, could you give me further instructions for producing this on corral draw.

Also what would be the minimum version of corral draw that I would need?

I don't see why you would need Corel Draw.

Admittedly mine is a cheap imitation done but I was messing around, wasn't trying to make it look exact. But I just used vectors to make the first set of diagonal lines. Duplicated the layer and used Image->Mirror to create the second set of lines. Used the Emboss or Bevel on one set of the lines for the rounded effect.

The gradient needs work but I don't really understand what you're looking for there. But the grient was just done in the editor.
