I have the trial version of x4 and have a question since I've gathered a lot of useful info from the forum already. Is x4 ready to capture old vhs tapes as is or will I need additioinal software to do this?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: vs x4 vhs capture question
Welcome to the forums!!
Before anything else, you will need some sort of capture device. These come in various shapes, sizes and price. The best are ones that will capture to DV/AVI over firewire. They are fairly foolproof, but they are also the most expensive. Most others use USB and range from the cheap and nasty to the excellent and, again, more expensive. Avoid a device called and spelt Easycap like the plague -- there is a sticky post at the top of this forum which you should take careful note of.
Just about all these devices come with capture software. Our recommendation is that you use that software for capture, then open the captured video in VS for editing. X4, like previous versions, can capture from only some capture devices. This is usually because the device manufacturers tweak their devices to run only with their capture software. Pinnacle is one such company, and they may the Dazzle range of capture devices. I am not saying you shouldn't buy such a device -- only that you should be aware of the above limitation before you buy.
