Can no longer Launch Video Studio 12
I ran into some malware problems that have been cleaned up.
However now I cannot start Corel Video Studio 12. I even go to the folder where vstudio.exe is located
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12
and double click on vstudio.exe and it never launches. I check the Windows Task Manager and do not see vstudio.exe running
Other exe files work (ie MS Word, MS moviemaker, Nero, etc), but for some reason vstudio does not start up.
Any advice? Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum!
In Windows Task Manager, are you looking under Processes? If not, then do so and if vstudio appears, then end the process and see if you can start VS normally...
In addition, do you still have your original X2 installation file? An uninstall/reinstall might be called for in case the malware managed to screw things up...

Re: Can no longer Launch Video Studio 12
Hi, thank you for the very fast response
Yes I see it under Process but it comes up for a second and then disappears. So it appears it tries to start but then quits??
I cannot find the original installation file. I believe I downloaded the trial version a year ago and then bought the activation key shortly after. So not sure how I would go about doing an uninstall and reinstall.

Hello coreluser469,
The best solution for your problem is to reinstall the program. If you bought the program via Corel.com and registered the program, chances the serial number is stored on your corel account. So you can still reinstall the program.
Here's what you need to do.
To uninstall the program: http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/763309
Retrieve the serial number and re-download the program:
http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/758190,
if you do not see the download link from the order email when follow the steps indicated in the KB article, then you can download the trial of VS X2 from this link: http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloa ... 2IETBB.exe, then follow these steps to activate the program: http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/763308
Hope that helps.

Re: Can no longer Launch Video Studio 12
So far so good. Was able to manually uninstall VideoStudio using the MS Windows Clean Up Utility and did the RegEdit. I then retrieved my account info, activation key etc from the Corel.com site.Abiel Corel NA wrote:Hello coreluser469,

I could not get the dialog box. The same problem happened. I would try to launch the app from the Start->Program Files menu and nothing would happen. I went to the folder where the vstudio.exe is located and double clicked it to launch it but same thing nothing happened. You just see it blip up for a very brief time under Processes in the Window Task Manager. I also noticed that there was a program called ULCDRSvr.exe running under Processes.Abiel Corel NA wrote: then follow these steps to activate the program: http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/763308

One other thing I tried was right clicking on vstudio.exe and choose "Run as" and I chose my own profile. It states
Limited Users cannot try this product.
You can use the product normally after successful activation.
If you have any other suggestions let me know please. Thanks again!

Hi
Before uninstalling Video Studio did you Show Hidden Files and Folders via windows explorer. Tools-Folder Options-View
After uninstalling Video Studio some files are left behind.
A clean install is a process to manually remove these files.
Some are common / shared files so much easier if you only have X2 installed.
Do you have other Ulead/Corel products installed?

Not sure I will check when I get home from work. But since I am deleting directories wouldn't Windows prompt me if there are hidden files and disallow me to delete the whole directory?trevor andrew wrote:Hi

Also throughout the whole process I did not restart my computer once. I was never prompted to. Should I restart the computer once I do the manual install, regedit and before I reinstall the app?
Under my C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel directory I see 3 thingstrevor andrew wrote: Do you have other Ulead/Corel products installed?
Corel Snapfire Plus
Corel VideoStudio 12
VS-Installation Files
Thanks again for any help

Re: Can no longer Launch Video Studio 12
Hi
Corel Snapfire is as far as I can see a free program and can be downloaded from Corel, so yes this can be uninstalled
My downloaded X2 file is called ESDVSPRX2IEPCPF.exe, running this file extracts the content and creates the VS-Installation Files, its these files that are used to install the program creating the Corel Video Studio 12 folder
Corel Video Studio 12 folder is the actual installed program, this will be removed after uninstalling X2
------------------------------------------------------
Show hidden files and folders.
Some files are shared with other corel /ulead products.
When uninstalling X2 not all files are removed as they may be used by other programs.
However if you do not have other programs then these can be removed manually.
This process is known as a clean install, literally purging your pc of all corel/ulead files.
To view all files you have to Show Hidden Files and Folders.
When I do a clean install I uninstall the programs, then search my hard drive for all corel, ulead, vstudio files.
Be careful as to not delete the VSP files as these are your project files.
And it goes without saying you do not delete your video files/clips.
There are some shared files here:-
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems
Yes you may find Ulead files installed even though you have installed Corel X2, i think??
you do not need to delete the VS-Installation Files.
Take care

Re: Can no longer Launch Video Studio 12
Trevor,
Please forgive me for getting in the middle of this conversation, but I have one brief and simple question:
What is the difference between VS 12 and VS Pro X2, if any?
P.S. -- This question relates to my current troubles in trying to find a User's Guide for my VS Pro X2 and not being able to find one. Would it be sufferable to get the Guide for X3 and, realizing and taking into account the possibility that some of the latter's features may not be present in my X2? Or would I be better off going with the VS 11 Plus guide?
Thanks for your advice.
Zelopes

Re: Can no longer Launch Video Studio 12
VS 12 and X2 are one in the same (X being the Roman numeral for 10, plus 2 = 12). The Help file in the program is pretty much identical to what you would find in a printed manual. And anyway, the manuals really only cover the basics, so an older manual would probably suffice for a newer version.

Re: Can no longer Launch Video Studio 12
Hi Zelopes
As Jeff said Corel Video Studio 12 and X2 are the same program.
Version 11 was the last to be produced by Ulead, and installed into Ulead Video Studio folders.
All earlier versions were known as Video Studio 9, 10 11 etc, then came Corel’s first effort in Video Studio 12. I think they may have been best to dump the title and simply opt for X2.
Video Studio 12 / X2 guide
Launch the program and press F7.
This should open the help files.
Some time ago I have downloaded a PDF of Video Studio 12
If you send your e-mail via Private Message I will send the file.
I don’t know if this file is different to the help files.
If you are having a specific problem with Video Studio you may be best to start a new post
