error diffuision flexibility
I had a very old version of corel photo paint. Now I have paint shop pro 3. I am trying to work with the effects of error diffusion that I used to be able to get with black and white images. It seems I don't have the flexibility to adjust the intensity of the diffusion that I get. I click the Image tab.... decrease colour depth/2 colour palette/ I then select the error diffusion pattern that I desire. I used to be able to control the amount of visible image, or the density of the dot resulting dot pattern by adjusting a setting. I no longer have that option. I get what ever the program gives me. Is there a way to make adjustments to suit my needs?

In performing the two-color reduction, PSP doesn't give you the same options that you find in Photo-Paint. Essentially, you have the selections available in the Reduction method and Palette weight panels of the dialog box. There is nothing in PSP directly comparable to the Intensity slider in the corresponding dialog in Photo-Paint.
What might prove useful as a workaround is to use the Effects > Artistic Effects > Halftone... dialog instead. Select Greyscale from the Color Scheme panel, and then adjust the settings on the Cell properties panel. The results may not be quite the same, but they should be usable for many purposes.

Hello Spear,
Unfortunately those are the only option on PSP X3. However, if you still want to try out the latest version of PhotoPaint, you can download the trial of Corel Draw X5 and you can use the PhotoPaint X5. You can go to http://www.corel.com/trials for the download.
