Re: 24 fps?
I should perhaps have added that I have a pile of Matrox codecs loaded for another editing program. They all work too with the 24/50/60 route described above.

Re: 24 fps?
Is the conclusion that there are a large variety of codecs that work well with VS X4, and they offer a rich set of formats. Users basically are not stuck with what Corel offers. Don't you think Corel should be proactive in letting their users and prospect buyers know that VX X4 is known to work with many codecs offering significant increased functionality? BTW Ken, have you tested Data rates of rendered files? Can these codecs do high data rates like 40Mbs?

Re: 24 fps?
The only actual experiments I have run in terms of actually producing a new video have involved XVid. And XVid/DivX -- even the HD varieties -- do not use high bitrates. That's of course one of the reasons the resulting files are so small... Nonetheless, the quality seems excellent -- as good as the original as far as I can see.
Why don't you try it yourself and see. That way you will know empirically what bitrates it can reach with which codecs...
As for Corel advertising this fact, I am not even sure they are aware of it. You will recall from the other thread on frame rates that the advice we got from them was to us mpeg transport stream as the format, where you are then limited to 1280 x 720p...

Re: 24 fps?
In VSPX4, I was able to create an AVC/h.264 1920x1080i 24fps .m2t preset. I know it's interlaced, but I don't recall being able to create such a preset the last time I went through this thread. MediaInfo confirms it. Can anyone else create it?

Re: 24 fps?
I have just tried, without success, using Make Movie Template Manager and selecting MPEG Transport Stream as the general format. If you also used that, how did you get around the fact that X4 only offers 25 fps or 50 fps as the possible speed? And you can't manually insert 24...

Re: 24 fps?
Thanks, Ken. So I did "break" something. After I closed VS and went to lunch, I came back and tried creating another preset with the Make Movie Template Manger, but this time I didn't have the nice array of frame rates. Then I went about messing with the project settings, and afterwards some time went back to the the Make Movie Template Manager. This time there was a nice array of frame rates. I guess I shouldn't count on it being there the next time.

24 fps MTS file in timeline doesn't work
I have a Panasonic GH1 that is hacked to produce HD video at 24fps. The files produced can be inserted into the timeline OK, but I am unable to render them with any of the tricks we have discussed here in this thread. An old version of Mediainfo incorrectly reports the files as twice that frame rate, just like VS does when displaying the Properties of the inserted clip. After upgrading Mediainfo to the latest, it reports the MTS file correctly as 24fps (23.976fps). I suspect there is something in that file that needs an update in VS so it reports and interprets the file correctly. BTW, 24fps files from a GH2 which produces 24fps files without any hack, work just fine in VS X4. Not sure if what Mediainfo did with their latest update is available to Corel, but wanted to pass this along so others don't get as frustrated as I was for a few hours as to why VS was not rendering my project correctly, the video sections with the 24fps files rendered very jerky... Re: 24 fps?
Hello everybody,
I work with 1920x1080/24fps clips from my Canon 600D in VS X3 Pro.
Although it’s not very smooth, I can deal with it.
The problem I have is after exporting to a file. I usually use the option of exporting to “Blueray/1920x1080”. The original video clips from the Canon 600D play smoothly on my computer (see specs), but after the editing and export to a file it’s slightly jerky, which is especially noticeable during panning/tilting/sliding. I noticed the preset of the "Blueray/1920x1080" export option is 30fps but my original clips are 24fps. Is that the reason?
Do I have to buy another video editing program or can Corel VS X3 Pro be configured to export Canon 600D files at 1920x1080/24fps properly?

Re: 24 fps?
Have you tried the method found by aljuminez on page 1 above?:
As I said further below that post, I have tried it and it works...Installing open source fddshow tryout
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
has given my X4 program enormous encoding/rendering choices, including 24fps. I highly recommend this installation. I have been successful creating a template with 24fps, 1080p. I haven't explored 30p nor 60p, but the choices fddshow gives for controlling rendering as the selected codec in an avi is impressive... Al

I visited that website and have no idea what it is or how it works. Is it a standalone application or is it an add-on to VS?Ken Berry wrote:Have you tried the method found by aljuminez on page 1 above?:As I said further below that post, I have tried it and it works...Installing open source fddshow tryout

I would still prefer a VS internal solution if that's possible.
Edit: Okay ffdshow appears as a codec for AVI files now, but the quality is very poor and my sliding/panning videos are still jerky, although I set the fps to 23.97fps just like the original footage of my Canon 600D. VS starts to pis$ me off.
