Re: 24 fps?
I tried it and it will not handle 1920x1080 at 24fps progressive, if that's what you have. I hope someone officially tells us I am wrong... Al

Hi
You don’t really give any details of the type of video files you have?????????
I own a canon 7D which records 1920 x 1080 24fps (23.976) Quicktime Mov H264
Video Studio recognises the clips ok and I am able to edit.
I cannot render to Mov using H264 using Video Studio, the option for Same as First Clip is not available.
I can however render the project to other formats.
Your best option is to download the trial version to give it a run using your own video files. The proof is in the pudding, as they say…………..

Re: 24 fps?
That is what I should have said, exactly. VS X4 reads it, can place it on the timelie, but VS X4 does not create 24fps.trevor andrew wrote:Video Studio recognises the clips ok and I am able to edit.

Re: 24 fps?
Trevor's reference to Quicktime .mov files is timely. I was playing around with this question overnight, and discovered that you can in fact output in 24 fps (as well as edit it, as Trevor has indicated) using Share > Create Video File > Custom, and then choosing .mov as the output format. The only compression format within that broad spectrum which would appear to allow 24 fps, however, is Sorensen video. You can change the frame size up to 1920 x 1080 is you want that.
I was experimenting with a short video I had just made in PAL AVCHD format as I did not have any 24 fps video at hand. Using the above settings, I output a new video which plays at 24 fps. However, I have to add that I did not like the quality: there was heavy pixelation throughout. I suspect there might have been other reasons for that, but I did not have time for further experimentation.
As Trevor also noted, I too found that -- using the new 24 fps video clip this time in the timeline -- you cannot use 'Same as first clip' for the output of a new clip. And when I tried using the Add route to make a new template with the .mov format, I got a 'Format mismatch' error.

Re: 24 fps?
Thanks all for the input. I thought i'd ask the question first as these video programs--even in trial format are space hogs. To answer the question ask earlier, I have three different brands of cameras all of which are capable of recording at 24FPS- two - .mov(s) and one in AVCHD. If i am shooting at 24, I want to be consistent with my output...otherwise it seem imo to defeat the purpose. Again thanks!

Re: 24 fps?
Downloaded the trial this morning: It appears that under the custom menu that you can output the following file types at 24 and 23.975 FPS by choosing share>create video file> save as type>options :
Quicktime movie files
MPEG-4 files
Microsoft AVI (compression choice becomes an issue here)
Will be playing with some GH2 avchd files shot at 24 over the next day or so and let you know how I fare....I am very encouraged by this discovery and the info shared here !
Thanks again for your willingness to address the original question.

Re: 24 fps?
Hi
Although you say you have a few cameras recording to 24 fps, you don’t give any frame size or compression details. You have however mentioned GH2, a Panasonic Lumix.
There are many different types of Mov having many flavours, Panasonic now use Avchd Lite, just another variation of video file.
I have a Lumix TZ9, uses Mov 1280 x 720 Photo Jpeg. Excellent quality for its size.
Rendering to MP4 seems to give acceptable quality, for uploaded to youtube.
What do you intend to make? internet video or DVD will obviously be the factor in rendering your video files.
Size Issue
I have however come across some issues with file size when rendering Mov with X4.
For the time being all I can say is keep an eye on the file sizes as you try the different options.
You may find using Make Movie Templates Manager useful when creating your own custom templates.

Re: 24 fps?
Installing open source fddshow tryout
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
has given my X4 program enormous encoding/rendering choices, including 24fps. I highly recommend this installation. I have been successful creating a template with 24fps, 1080p. I haven't explored 30p nor 60p, but the choices fddshow gives for controlling rendering as the selected codec in an avi is impressive... Al

I think there would be much interest if you tried these also.I haven't explored 30p nor 60p

Re: 24 fps?
I am intrigued by the reference to "1980p" which is obviously (?) a typo for 1080p -- or is it? But if it *is* 1080p, then it will be either 30 full fps or 60 fps anyway -- but which?

Re: 24 fps?
I have now also succeeded in creating the 24p/1080 template using the AVI/ffdshow route in Make Movie Template Manager and manually setting 1920 x 1080 as the frame size. Using Configure for the ffdshow codec, I set h.264 for the encoder. However, I cannot see a way of making one for full 50p or 60p. The maximum available fps is 30 with no way to manually alter this.

Re: 24 fps?
Glad to hear and sad that 60p is not available now. However, fddshow is actively being improved and I'd bet it will come. I like this since they will probably work quicker that Corel's implementation... Al (BTW, I edited 1980 to 1080 in my earlier post)Ken Berry wrote:I have now also succeeded in creating the 24p/1080 template using the AVI/ffdshow route in Make Movie Template Manager and manually setting 1920 x 1080 as the frame size. Re: 24 fps?
In fact, I have now made a full 1920 x 1080 full 50 (or 60) fps template using Microsoft AVI as the base format using the ffdshow codec. My mistake in the past has been that when I click on the downward arrow against the frame rate, I see a dropdown menu which gives 30 fps as the highest frame rate. It had never occurred to me that you can *manually* simply type in 50 or 60 (or even 59.94!!) into that box.
And it is accepted.
Then adjust the frame size to what you want using the User Defined boxes, and close out.
You can also use Microsoft Video 1 and XVid the same way as the active codec. I imagine DivX would also work, though I don't have that codec on this computer as yet...

Hi
I do not have ffdshow, nor Div X, but most of the standard codecs that I have do allow for 50 fps and 60 fps.
Interesting
