smart render 25mb/s avchd files

Post by gearo »

Hello all,
I've purchased a sony VG10E camcorder that has sourced capture at 25mbps.
I have been using premiere pro for years and now find render for the imported 1 hour source AVCHD files takes over a day ! (and still changes original source material )
I've heard that the latest video studio smart renders AVCHD.
Can anyone confirm with me that this provides untouched source file reproduction after editing using my sony 25mbps quality?(i'd expect untouched to remain same, while touched/transitionss etc will require render)
if people can't assist, could you pls provide contact to the corel assistance in this area as I've gone in circles prior to this forum
thanks in advance.

Hi

Welcome to the forums

Download the trial version of X4, you have 30 days to give it a run.

I dont use HD video but know that it has been recommended to disable smart render when working with avchd?

As I say your best giving it a run yourself

Render times are affected by the type of pc you are using , and you don’t give any details????????

By the way, your camera films at a maximum bitrate of 24 Mbps not 25 Mbps. The former is also the maximum under the current international standard for AVCHD. And as Trevor says, we have no idea of what your computer is capable of. Only you know that. But it you think your current computer takes 24 hours to render one hour of AVCHD using Premiere, then although X4 is definitely faster than that, I don't hold out much hope for your computer... Take Trevor's advice and try out the trial version of X4, and then you will know for yourself. Anyone else who answers will probably have a quite different computer to yours so times and ability will be quite different, one user to another. Sure X4 is supposed to be able to handle 24 Mbps video, but that does not necessarily mean your computer can handle it.

thanks for commennts Trevor and Ken.
FYI my pc is a 3gz, quad core (xtreme edition).
You will understand that my pc capability is not my issue.
I was particularly looking to understand if the application can pass thru, untouched AVCHD source material during render and final export.
(i understand transitions and edit areas will require to be rendered, in turn , taking as long with respect to the pc involved as you point out).
I've been using HD mpeg for several years on a hdv tape camcorder and my mainconcept plug in for Premier pro does exactly what I'm looking for as above.
I will trial the product but I know from experience, that It is not realistic just to take a subjective “look” at the exported product
and form an opionion re quality. (and as quality generally relates to speed of render, I did not wish to compare this way with respect to speed as a primary concern...hence my omission on initial post).
I was hoping to get a technical answer regards the smart render outcomes and capability.

thanks again.

For what it's worth, I have consistently recommended for a couple of years now that people NOT use SmartRender with either HDV or AVCHD. It would appear to be related to too many problems users experience, particularly with AVCHD. That being said, X4 -- for me at least -- appears to render AVCHD much faster than did HDV, including with SmartRender enabled, and moreover it appears to work (for me) with none of the reported errors of past versions.

Hello gearo,

With VideoStudio Pro X4 you can load AVCHD and output AVCHD videofiles and like what trevor said the best way answer your question is to download the trial version and use the program yourself. Since no all of us have the video camera that you are using. You can download the full working version and use it for 30 days at http://www.corel.com/trials.
