I can get VS3 for very cheap (under $30 - I guess clearance) but is it worth it to spend the extra money and go to VS4?
I'm moving to HD, having upgraded my video camera to an AVCHD one - I'm coming from VS10... I heard that many folks have problems with VS3, but then again, I think I've read the same for EVERY version of VS...
TIA.
cheap VS3 or don't bother?

I don't know how many you consider many...I heard that many folks have problems with VS3, but then again, I think I've read the same for EVERY version of VS...
But it's true, most threads on this forum, or any help forum, are from people having trouble, for whatever reason. Sometimes it is the software, sometimes hardware, and very often a combination of both.
It's impossible for anybody but yourself to determine what version you will like. I will add, though, that editing AVCHD video is very dependent on computer resources, whatever the software you may choose. And since you don't include that info in your profile, we can't comment any further on that aspect.

One question is where are you getting this? If it's off Ebay, I would be real concerned if it may be a pirated, an SE (Special/Simple Edition, that is not be sold resale), or has already been registered. I just stay away from such deals, way too easy to get taken on them.su_A_ve wrote:I can get VS3 for very cheap (under $30 - I guess clearance)

You partially answered your own question. Since you've upgraded to AVCHD, VS X4 seems to have some of the bugs worked out that were present in VS X3. Part of the equation would be having a system that is capable. Stability between software and hardware is easier to achieve with a cleaner, less cluttered one, ie; not a lot of other programs. Every program installed, risks adding conflicts.su_A_ve wrote:but is it worth it to spend the extra money and go to VS4? VS X3 comes with a horrible DVD authoring program, DVD Factory 2010. You are provided with a freebie replacement, DVD MovieFactory 7SE. With VS X4, they reverted back to an integrated burn module, just like VS 10.

Hello su_A_ve,
Before buying VS X3 at a very low price, you may want to read this first, http://corel.custhelp.com/app/answers/d ... _id/753902, and if you want to know how VS X4 handles HD video, I strongly suggest that you try and download the trial version via http://www.corel.com/trials.

Thanks - the link however points to issues with pirated software - this is not the case. I'm looking at a reputable vendor and a boxed version of VS X3. They are clearing their inventory. I remember when VS 11 came out I was tempted to upgrade then but then missed it.Abiel Corel NA wrote:Hello su_A_ve,

In any case, I downloaded and been playing a bit with X4. I was able to create a simple project involving an AVCHD file and so far so good. Did not have much luck with a previous MP4 version of the same file, which was transcoded down with ripbot264. Weird...
I might give that version of VS X3 a go - is a trial still available somehow? TIA...

FWIW: Buy the VSX3 and download all the Service Packs.
I think it will be less buggy than VSX4 until Corel releases Service Packs for X4.
AT least you won't spend the full wallop on buying new, and upgrading from X3 will keep you more current.
Hope this helps.
