I have created a basic project with a five minute video from the Drift 170hd helmet camera (.mov H.264). My project consists of a simple stock intro video from X3 at the beginning, then a stock "cross fade" transition and then my .mov video. When I play the .mov file outside of VS it sounds fine, but when I render to a file or even play the project back inside of X3 I don't get any sound from my video except at the very beginning of my .mov video; it plays for about a half second then goes silent. I tried a few different video to rule out a bad video file but no luck.
I have submitted this to Corel's help email system and they said that I have to call support for a fee. I was hoping that somebody here can help me out.
I have updated my profile with my hardware specs as well.
Thanks in advance! Dave

Hi Dave
Mov files use a variety of video/audio codecs.
With so many out there its not surprising to me that Video Studio may have problems reading some of these.
There have also been some posts regarding helmet cameras, maybe worth searching the forum. (search for Helmet )
Video PropertiesRight click your clips and select properties, what are they?
Smart ProxyIf your clips are HD then you need to be using Smart Proxy, this should improve playback, I do not know if this option is on by default
View Settings-Smart Proxy
Quicktime there has been problems (crashes) running the latest versions of QT.
It is recommended to revert your QT to an earlier version
Even though you are not experiencing crashes it may be worth reverting.
Direct X
Manually installing direct X has been known to cure some strange issues with VS.
Even though your system may be running auto updates, the manual approach does make a difference. There is a post and link at the top of this forum.
directx_Jun2010_redist.exe is the latest version.
Converting your video to another format before editing may be the solution,
There is a program called Super, a link is provided on the Free Stuff page

Trevor,
I have attached the properties of my video, I will install an older version of QT and use smart proxy. Re-rendering now. Keep you posted...

Re: VS X3: Help No sound!
Did everything you suggested except converting my vides files to something else. Don't want to do that if I don't have to. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I will search for helmet camera to see if others are having issues with .mov files.

Re: VS X3: Help No sound!
Did the helmet cam come with an installation disk, and if so, have you installed it? I ask since the properties given above are obviously specific to the camera, and it could be that VS cannot locate the relevant codec.
I note that originally you said you had tried other formats but that you don't really want to convert. But can I also ask if you tried a straight conversion to AVCHD 1920 x 1080? That should at least preserve the properties to a large extent, apart from the audio... which should become Dolby...

Re: VS X3: Help No sound!
Seeing as you don't want to convert, and the audio plays fine outside of VS, a work around could be to record the audio and save it as a WAV file (I would use Audacity) then use that to replace your clip's audio.
