Video Encoding - Nvidia CUDA (X4)

Post by GuyL »

Does anyone using X4 currently have an Nvidia GPU with CUDA support that can tell me how fast the video encoding is compared to without? I'm in the market for a new video card and may go with Nvidia.

I was thinking someone should have jumped in here, providing some insight. I don't have such a video card, so can not provide any help. Hopefully someone will post on this.

Well, I will post an update. I have two systems that use VS X4. My wife and I both do video editing. I'm installing an nVidia 460 in her system later this week and I'll know the answer. Stay tuned....

In installed an Nvidia 460 yesterday in my wife's computer and did some testing. Rendering with CUDA hardware acceleration is actually slower - believe it or not. What a dissapointment!

The biggest headache for my wife was using auto music slowing performance to a crawl when you try and edit after you have added auto music. It slows performance down to a crawl. It did int X3 and it did it in X4. The same goes with the AVCHD blips when rendering - and rendering speed in general. I paid to upgrade from X3 to X4 and the problems still persist. I added a new video card and performance is still sub-par - actually worse.

Today, I purchased and installed a competing product (for both VS and PSP) and I'm not looking back. The rendering is much faster in my new product and a lot of the little problems don't exist. The "auto music" works just fine and there are no AVCHD problems either.

It was a fun ride since VS 6. Now I have to teach a new program to my wife. Wish me luck!

There are some checkboxes to enable hardware encode and hardware decode. I believe (from memory) that one of them is unchecked. That could have been your performance issue with your new NVidia card.

They are all checked as they are supposed to be. I have a call into Corel Support to see what is up. If I look at the GPU usage during endoding it isn't being used at all.
